2025 Mach-E Premium AWD Extended - Black on Black
Hello Everybody!
I've had my 2025 Mach-E, AWD with Extended Range (black on black) and I am really enjoying the vehicle. This is my first EV, so please bear with me. Driving around town is a ton of fun, and on the highway, such a comfortable ride.

However, I took it on my first extended drive (210 miles round trip) and I have a question on how range is calculated. The vehicle now has 410 total miles driven. The range calculation to battery charge has me a little concerned. Currently, I am seeing a 70% charge and 165 miles of range.

That seems low to me, considering I purchased the Extended Range/Dual Motor option with the Premium trim AWD.

My research has told me that the range calculations change the more you drive the car, which I understand. But, that doesn't help my anxiety. I spoke with a Ford Customer Service rep via text yesterday, and they confirmed I did in fact purchase a Extended Range AWD Premium version of the car. (I had to contact Ford, because the dealership I bought this vehicle from was next to worthless in answering questions. It's a long story).

Anyway, I do really like the car. I figured this was a good place to start to either ease my concerns or add even more anxiety. Hahaha.

I appreciate your thoughts and insight. This seems like a very welcoming community.

Peace!

So - the estimated range is estimated. The accuracy of the estimate is improved over time, as it "learns" your driving style.

Just like an ICE car, YMMV.

My Rally (dual motor, extended battery) is currently charged to 81% and it's estimated range is 212 miles. I reckon it will really go 200 miles unless I put it in Unbridled Mode and go blasting down the road ....

The number on the dash is mostly irrelevant. It’s the car doing math based on how you drove the last few times you drove. It has no predictive value on how your next drive will go. Drive fast (over 55MPH) in cold weather, the car will assume low range as speed and temperature are the biggest variables that affect range. That doesn’t mean you can’t achieve An actual higher range. It just means you’ll have to modify your behavior. I drive a GT-PE that often displays about 200 miles at 100% charge. Because I like to drive it like a sports car around town. But I can jump on the highway, set the cruise to follow the speed limit, and if it’s 75° or more, easily drive 260 miles. The number on the dash isn’t predictive at all. It’s based on your past.

I have a 2023 Premium AWD with the big battery. Like other posters have said, your mileage will vary. Speed, elevation gain or loss, wind, roof racks, bike racks, and temperature all have an impact. At 70 MPH, a relatively flat road, and moderate temps, the car will do 3 miles or so per KWH. If you go 80 MPH, expect a fairly large hit to your efficiency, maybe down to 2.5 miles per KWH. I regularly drive from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe. Its 189 miles with about a 7000 foot elevation gain. Climbing up the mountain drops mileage to about 1.8 miles per KWH. I can easily make the trip in the summer without stopping to charge if I drive 70 MPH. In the winter I stop for a quick charge of 10-15 minutes before the mountain climb starts. The lower temps adversely impact range as does the ski box on the roof I sometimes use. The car easily makes the trip back, winter or summer, without stopping to charge due to the long down hill run.

It will get more accurate as it learns your driving style . It also depends on the outside temp. High heat and cold affect it. My 6 months old 2024 with the same specs as yours gets 245 miles on an 80 % charge with an average daily temp of 89 Degrees F. If I do mostly around town driving ( less than 50 mph) use engaged mode and don’t show off I can get another 20 miles on that . 80% of 300 is 240 so I am doing marginally better than spec.

The EPA estimate for your car, is based on a 45mph average with gas car slow accelerations and some heavy braking. The EPA doesn't give you brownie points for being able to go further than the window sticker, but can penalize the car company, if it can't do the mileage it posted. Most of Ford's cars appear to be able to meet their mileage in town. When I am running around town, my Rally exceeds it's mileage EPA estimate by the factory. Wind resistance example, the lbs. are not exact for any car: At 40mph your cars wind resistance is 10lbs. At 80mph it is 40lbs of wind resistance.

I had a "deiselgate" VW Jetta. The sticker said 36MPG EPA estimated average. I ALWAYS got at least 40, and sometimes 50!

Well, we learned the truth about that years later.

My '21 Powerboost was *supposed* to have an average of 24MPG. Well, we learned the truth about that after putting on some decent truck tires. Reality = 21MPG.

So - those EPA Estimates really aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

Forget about the range estimate.

What does the trips panel say you are getting in terms of m per kwh?

I get 3.7 at 68mph on freeway rides, after the initial few miles. That lands me at about 320m per full charge. That's after 2 years of battery age. Well above epa.

If you are getting a lot less then that, use the trips app to figure out where your elections are going.

I had anxiety too. I wondered if my car was broken. I thought i might have the wrong battery. I now know that guessing gauge is the problem. Putting some tape over it and just using the percent and your own math will make you happy! It's an excellent car.

My work commute is 10 miles; right after charging, it is pretty common for me to use 6 miles of range on that drive. So maybe track a few drives to see how your expected range moves with actual traveled distance? For mine, the estimate gets better as battery % drops, and under 40% seems to be pretty accurate.

If you tend to drive 80+mph, then it is fairly realistic.

First off WELCOME to our little dysfunctional family . My suggestion would be to make sure you have a mobile charger in the car . If Ford didn't give you one Id seriously consider buying one. Make sure it has both a 120 AND 240v plug.
With this in the car you really are never screwed. Freeway and turnpikes usually have reststops that have 240 equipped areas for motorhomes and campers . It won't be fast charging like DCFC but you won't be stranded either . Peace of mind in the hatch or frunk.
Another point is NEVER cheap out on the charger or the line install. Your very expensive car is getting its "juice" from your even more expensive house. Neither are expendable . Saving $15 on a cheap plug won't help you pay for the higher insurance premiums if you have a fiery issue .
If Ford still gives FordPass Reward Points at purchase I think that might knock a few bucks off their mobile charger .
Everybody and their brother tries their best to separate you from your money around Black Friday ...if you can wait till then you might get a deal .
BTW AT DELIVERY my Mach showed 140 miles at 100% charge . I seriously wondered what I had just gotten myself into . 4 years later and I can never go back to ICE.

My son and I both have the 2021AWD ext range battery in MN. The best way that we get the most accurate day's range is the this trip setting and do the math on miles per kw to battery capacity left. So for simple math current trip is running 3 mi per kw, and you have 50% battery on 88 kw battery you have 44 Ă— 3 = 132 miles left in real time, on this trip, in whatever conditions your driving in. Hope it helps.

The G.O.M. is whack. My '24 Premium RWD XR is currently stating I'm getting 376 miles @ 85%, and 200 miles at 50%. I haven't fully charged it in a while, but based on that, I would expect 400 miles on a full charge.

My daily commute is 17 miles round trip, plus incidentals for lunch (between 0 and 5 depending on the day). I live about 400 feet higher than my work. I average 20.5 kWh/mile going to work, and 4kWh going home. All street driving, as the freeways goes quite a ways out of the way(about 5 miles extra).

I've been meaning to actually track true miles rather than what the G.O.M. is stating, but since I can easily go two weeks between charges (generally going from 85% to 30% S.O.C.) I haven't really taken that step into the weeds.

I've also been loathe to get out of the city. I'm pretty proud of the fact that after 8 months of owning the car, I'm just 3,700 miles on the odometer. But, i know eventually I'm going to have to take a longer trip... maybe once I hit 5K and get the first tire rotation... I've read a ton about day-tripping and even cross country trips - I have a route plotted if I do take a trip out west - but it's that final, actual, last gasp of range anxiety that's holding me back. 'Round town? No sweat. Out on the open road? Lots of sweat - lol.

I recently purchased a one year old 2024 AWD with the extended battery. It took a couple of weeks to figure out that you can tell a Mach E’s configuration by looking at the label on the front doors. If it says E4, it’s a dual motor. If it says E4X, it’s a dual motor with the extended battery.

The “State of Charge” YouTube video channel has a 100-0%, 70 mph test drive video on the Mach E, dual motor, extended battery. I believe they achieved 285 miles on that test drive.

So far, mine seems to be consistent with that range.

I'm curious why people think an EV should get the exact mileage on the sticker when it's a well-known fact that ICE vehicles don't get the exact fuel economy on the sticker either. The actual range depends on current conditions and it will probably be less than the sticker says by some amount unless you are hypermileing it.
