Perfect timing for me to move back to a midsize truck from the Mach-e, pretty exciting.

I like the idea of an updated platform, and of refined manufacturing processes, especially the subassembly kitting and relying on more common components. EVs are theoretically simpler to build, but reliance on ICE components and processes haven't let that fully materialize.

Also glad to hear about a mid-size truck, though I hope it is on the smaller end of mid-size. I'm going to keep limping this '97 Tacoma along until someone makes a worthy EV competitor. Real question is whether an option will be available before I break 300k miles..!

We have a 20-year-old Tacoma that really should be replaced. This would be a good candidate if there is a long bed version. Without that, it's a hard pass.

Agreed! Or a hot hatch/hatchback in small and/or medium sized body styles. To be honest that is what our Mach-e's are as much as Ford insists on calling them SUVs.

But that's not a coupe or a sedan. That's a Cute Ute. A coupe or sedan would have a smaller frontal cross-section, giving it a highway range advantage over a bloated micro SUV/Cute Ute/Hot Hatch or whatever it's called. Even a sedan-based station wagon (which I'd love to see) would be more efficient.

Reminds me that when I was a kid we never needed a pickup truck. We had a station wagon. Put the rear seats down and you can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back. Super useful with 500+ lbs/ft of torque.

With a 2027 release suggestion, ASAP is the time to share the specifics. If it’s going to be a Tacoma-sized BEV (or even a bit smaller) with ~300+ miles range, decent clearance, and AWD or 4WD, we would put in a reservation today. But if there’s a competitor (Toyota) who releases their Tacoma BEV before Ford does…I—for one—don’t do brand loyalty...

Yes! An EV station wagon with the pop up third row seats that face the rear window. Roll that tailgate window down since you won't be pulling in your own exhaust like in the 70's. Not that you wouldn't get it from other vehicles.

Every few years at the auto show I see a couple station wagons, one year Buick had one as well as Mercedes. Maybe it's time for a station wagon revival.

Media articles are saying that the battery pack is half the size of Lightning’s. Presumably, we’re talking about half of Lightning’s 131kWh pack for the entry level truck. 65kWh would probably be fine for American city & suburbs but it wouldn’t work as a RAV4 replacement for weekends and road trips.
