OTA updates won’t update after downloading. I get messages that it shut down to preserve battery life when starting in the morning. After charging to 90 % and driving for 20 miles, the most SOC I get is 69%.
Charge using a level 1 charger.

That was 67% to 69%. What about the other issues?
What other issues? The only issues you've reported are all the same issue; a low 12V battery. Unfortunately, the 12V battery in the MME is very small and the MME uses it more than you'd think when it's parked, so it's very common for it to get low if the car isn't driven a lot.

It's certainly possible that your 12V battery is bad, but I don't think the evidence necessarily indicates that. Have you tried the suggestions in @Mach-Lee 's thread that I linked?

^This.^

For what it's worth, I've got my car set to take OTA updates at 9 PM and pretty much always have my car plugged in to the EVSE at 9:00 PM. Dunno whether the OP is in an apartment complex or something, but see if you can at least have the 120v plug attached to your portable EVSE and plugged into the wall and car at update times. I have no idea whether this will allow 12 volt battery maintenance during OTA updates but I would guess (admittedly wild-ass guess) that it would.

does anyone here use a trickle charger to maintain your 12v or charge it up for an OTA update? if so what do you use?

I was summoned. Understand that it takes the 12V battery a very long time to charge up fully (3+ hours of being on).

As previously mentioned try to follow the steps in the failed OTA guide first:

Thread 'How To Get Failed OTAs To Install'

To recondition the battery, you may need to put it on a 12V battery charger for 3 days straight. This can save you from having to replace the battery in some cases. This may be your only option if a replacement is not immediately available.

Thread 'How to Recondition/Service Your 12V Battery'

And if you wanted to know more about how the 12V system is managed, see my FAQ:
