5k mark up if anyone is interested.
Only $1250 more than it would cost those tax credit eligible in calendar year 2023 and available 3 weeks early! Not the worst deal. And net $2500 cheaper than non-tax credit eligible buyers in 3 weeks. So not a bad pricing strategy for that dealer for those that missed the MY22 “bargain.”

Where are you located?
I visited about 6 dealerships yesterday to start talking about their Model e programs and every single dealer is sitting on lots of MMEs in their lots. Say they can't find any buyers. There is a nice GB FE at San Tan Ford. Bell Ford had about 8 of them sitting there. Peoria Ford had 6 or 8. Chapman in Scottsdale had at least 4 or 5 that I saw. They are all over the place here in Phoenix area and they are willing to deal. No ADM and might even go below MSRP.

I am guessing they all are 2022 models....
Is that a problem for you?
Just called san tan ford, they asked 64k for a select with tech package (48k MRSP). 54k with dealer adds-on (can not be removed) and then 10k ADM. The market is still crazy.

Just checked Peoria Ford online and got an e-price with $20k ADM!

$88k out the door for a Premium Mach E!

Maybe going in person, like you did, will get a more reasonable price, but Peoria Ford's online pricing is a massive detractor for ever calling from out of state to try and negotiate.

That's the highest ADM I've seen asked for and in Northern California we've got dealers firm on $12k and $15k ADM in person.

Here's the dealer direct link to the car page and screenshots attached of the e-price and window sticker I received online:

More power to the dealer if they can get that kind of ADM, but also maybe why they can't find buyers?

not sure how much longer dealers can expect to get the additional markup on these, especially with higher interest rates and the car sales slowdown, so I think it's pretty dumb if they don't negotiate or at least just mark it at MSRP
Simple supply and demand, until supply exceeds demand in any given area of the country some dealers will continue to add ADM. I will add that in my area 3 dealers have told me that the market is softening on the Mach E's. It will be interesting to see how the new tax structure for 2023 as well as the MY 23 price increases will affect all of this.

Huh. I thought used car prices are trending down. Trade in value is a lot worse than what it was a few months ago. It will only go lower.

Used car prices have definitely dropped back and wholesale prices have dropped significantly. We ordered a Mach E expecting an August/September delivery or at least still having the full $7,500 tax credit first quarter 2023. Our scheduled delivery is now the first week in January so we are losing $3,750 of the credit and to run salt in the wound our trade is now $4,000 lower than in was three months ago. We will probably just pass on the MAch E when it arrives.

Negotiations are always an option.

But to your other points. Unless it’s different in your state, sales tax is paid where the car is registered, not where it is purchased…… ie home.

I bought my last car (before Mach E) from a dealer 500 miles away. Did all paperwork on phone and email and paid $500 to have it shipped to my door.

Takes some work but saved me thousands.
Negotiations are not always an option. If you are able to get a dealer to completely drop the ADM somehow, please let me know so I can do it too.

Yes, theoretically I can try to find a dealer in another state who will let me order without an ADM and then convince them to complete all the paperwork for me to avoid sales tax…but they don’t have to do it. Not only is it more work for them (possibly a few hours), but then I have to buy plane tickets, take time off work, leave my wife to handle everything alone with our child, travel at least 1 day or more, and maybe even find lodging. No, that’s simply not worth it. It shouldn’t be THAT difficult to simply order a car at full MSRP and wait 6-12 months.

I guess you have to be standing there in front of them. I was looking at Lightnings earlier this week and they all start around $20k ADM but they drop down to $10k immediately.....then it's hard plowing from there.

I didn't actually look into buying a MME though. I see a bunch sitting around so if they insist on ADM then that is why they still have them for sale.

If you are serious about buying a MME then PM me and I'll see what I can do. I am going to be at these dealerships quite frequently for other business so it's not a big deal for me to throw an offer at them and see what sticks.

Forget Bell Ford though. Those guys are still on the magic ADM carpet ride and think it is going to continue. They got very little allocations and their lot is empty so they are trying to make as much profit as they can with each measly car they sell. The other dealers are over flowing though. They are getting desperate to make their end of year numbers.

Under the old tax credit scheme there was very little chance that Ford would be eligible for the full value of the credit in the first quarter of 2023. They were already at 188K vehicles at the end of Q2, and with sales of 29K in Q2, pretty much guaranteed to hit 200K in Q3 (which they did in August of 2022).

You don’t have to do any of those things.

Did you read the post you quoted?

No plane tickets. No weird sales tax (sales tax is paid where you register the vehicle). No travel, no time off work.

I made phone calls, did paperwork through email, and they shipped the car to my house (well a mile up the street, but still).

It isn’t as difficult as you’re making it sound.
