I don’t know the factual answer, but here’s my speculation: Ford was naming cars after various birds and animals at the time. “Mustang” was originally inspired by the wild horses of the American West. After the name had been chosen, “someone” noted the similarity to the military aircraft, so Ford leaned into that a bit as well.
This is just my personal speculation. I have no factual knowledge.
Ok, Falcons and Mustangs makes sense, yes. It would make sense to try to appeal to more people by leaning into both.

Latest order guide. Didn't see it posted anywhere. Confirmed that Select and Premium Extended Range Battery will have smaller usable capacity than GT.
It's the same battery pack. But the profiling is different and they're utilizing a larger reserve buffer on the select and premium trims. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to the rated ranges with the new battery profiling and heat pump.

Why would they have increased the buffer after decreasing it for existing vehicles?

Maybe they aren't holding up as well under the smaller buffer. Like I posted earlier, our Mach-E battery health is significantly lower than our Lightning, with half the miles.

Then shouldn’t they roll back the buffer decrease they did for the existing fleet?

I’m still saying it’s likely a typo. For reasons like you mentioned.

I can’t believe they would decrease range on purpose.

Especially since battery warranty claims for losing 30% are basically nonexistent at this point.

Side note, whenever I see your name, I hear “Jim-Urr-Puh” in my head

I’m sure it stands for something, but that’s what it looks like to me. ?

Thank you for checking. I see that the status is coming out on Thursdays, so maybe this Thursday I will get another text.
Ok, another Thursday and still no update - almost 2 months since the order was placed and a month until build week...

My order was placed Nov 26, build scheduled email on Dec 05, and nothing since. TBH I am not expecting to hear anything until probably the week after the scheduled build week (2/17). The email says they’ll send an update within 45 days, but I’m not holding my breath. Even if they do, I can’t imagine it says anything besides “we still have your order”

Just a thought do you plug in your vehicle at night and lock the doors?

thx, actually I'm talking about an update on my order for my 25 Rally. Software updates are not an issue, I have gotten 3 in the last month or so.
