I don’t know the factual answer, but here’s my speculation: Ford was naming cars after various birds and animals at the time. “Mustang” was originally inspired by the wild horses of the American West. After the name had been chosen, “someone” noted the similarity to the military aircraft, so Ford leaned into that a bit as well.
This is just my personal speculation. I have no factual knowledge.
I have no insider information, either. But this seems likely to be closest to the truth. In coming up with a model name for their new "sporty family car," 'Mustang' was likely thrown out as an example of a powerful and distinctly American animal. While considering this, they immediately would've recognized that it was also the name of arguably the most successful Allied fighter in WWII. The marketing folks would've loved that this would appeal to the pilots who flew them in the war during their youth, most of whom were approaching middle age at that time, a segment of the population that usually had a little disposable income and a lot of nostalgia.

I guarantee you, the (fake) side scoops of the original body style were meant to suggest the uniquely identifiable belly scoop of the plane. Even if the shape of the doors and quarter panels were already locked in by the the time the plane's styling cues were incorporated, the chrome accent on the scoops (and subsequent scoop treatments on later years) was clearly meant to highlight it as a major feature, even though it didn't actually do anything.

Not quite. You can lock in the incentives by placing an order and later taking delivery of that ordered vehicle. At the time of delivery you can choose either what the incentives were at the time of order or the current incentives, whichever is best. It’s called sold order protection.

The question is, does the Ford Power Promise qualify for sold order protection.
Whoah. That wasn't made clear to me...

Anyone know if we can start an order for a 25 MachE? I heard prices are also dropped?
I placed my order at the end of November. The following week I received the email that mine got scheduled for the week of Feb 17.

Yes. I started an order in mid-November for a 2025 Premium through my dealer. No word from Ford yet on timeline or anything, but I don't expect to get it until maybe April or May.
I’m surprised yours hasn’t gotten scheduled yet.

And I am happy of that. ??
I saw a gray car without one and the roof looked so weird. They should have pained the roof black regardless of body color.

That is not fun waiting that long. I ordered a Mach-E First Edition in August of 2020 and it was delivered in March of 2021. It does take a while to get from the factory to delivery, but in Texas it will maybe get there sooner than most US places, they might pull it off the train before Kansas City were the train from Mexico goes to.

Mark wrapped his in black. I prefer my blue car with a blue roof. I just need to get off my fuzzy butt and paint the shark fin antenna blue. ??

That sounds like the dealer has to wait for Ford to provide them with allocations, they are probably sitting on your order, which is why you have not heard from Ford. You may want to consider finding a dealer with allocations that can place the order with Ford immediately. You might get your car sooner that way.

The factory does not have unlimited resources, so allocations provide pacing for that. Some dealers (usually bigger ones) get more allocations than other dealers. Talk to the sales manager or general manager, and ask them if they have allocations available to place the order with Ford. That's how we got our Bolt EUV in 7 weeks from order to delivery (built in Michigan), I called around and found a dealer with an allocation in hand.

You also have the black side trim and the spoiler. Black is dominant on the MMEs.

The Maverick, which shipped from a different plant in Mexico, took 2 1/2 weeks to get here.

Friendly advice to anyone buying new: have your dealer lift it on a hoist and check the underbody for damage.

I ordered a 2022 Premium AWD in January of 2022 and got a 2023 in January 2023 (almost an entire year to the day). I had waited so long, they ran out of 2022s and bumped me to a 2023 model. They tried to sell me the 2023 at MSRP (which was about 10K more than the 2022) and I told them I'll go walk over to Kia or Hyandai and get one of their EVs. They sold it to me for the 2022 price ?. Also, because I took delivery in January 2023, they had that weird, we're sorry you had to wait so long Ford program and they gave me 3K in Ford bucks and a 3K check. At the time, I thought I made out like a bandit!
