Does anyone know how this is going to work when the cars get to the dealer? I’ve seen some speculation that the Dealer could force me to do the paperwork even though I can’t take the car. How does that work? I want to trade in my current car. Can they sell my car to someone else if I don’t want to do paperwork until the car is available to take? Anyone in this group that ordered from Mullinax Kissimmee talk to the dealer yet?
It makes no sense to make a financial commitment on something that you can’t use. I would not sign anything until they fix the vehicle. Some are trying to make the distinction between ‘stop delivery’ and ‘stop sale’. I think they’re just misinformed.

I'm still about a month away from my expected delivery date, does anyone think they won't be able to honor that or have a fix by then?

Ford said they “should” have the update (over the air and at dealerships) in July

Didn’t the official press release state Q3?
Q3 starts in July and Ford USA and Canada told it will be released in July…

I personally saw many Facebook posts about owners having problem because of that issue (not starting at all or while driving telling to stop the car ASAP securely) so yes, I want that update.

yes it sucks to have another small delay but the good news is it’s only a software update, no need parts that could be back order.

Agreed on all fronts. Like all of you my heart sank when I saw the news, but my car isn't scheduled for delivery until 7/11-18 anyway... Likely the update will be out by then or at least soon thereafter. And if there's a safety issue I'd rather have it identified and fixed rather than the alternative. Similarly, hearing mysterious "Stop Safely Now" stories on the forums was giving me a little bit of a bad feeling so I'll be glad to have that addressed. "The devil you know" and whatnot ;)

If, as the recall bulletin suggests, the software update is already going into May 25 and later Mach E builds, is there a good chance that I might be able to drive my car home during my July 4 - 10 delivery date after all?

I hope so. I'm in the same boat/train/disaster/mess as you.

I pray and hope it is just software, but there may be a hardware component. There is a lot of speculation on the other thread "Safety Recall 22S41 - 2021-2022 Mach E - HVBJB Recall [high voltage battery main contactors may overheat]" that there might be a need to replace the High Voltage Junction Box (HVBJB). It is all speculation and conjecture and will remain that way until FORD provide specifics.

There are people who want a new hardware component because they perceive, based on zero information, that a software solution is insufficient. We know for a fact that the conditions of the recall will be met by a software update.

"The remedy for this program is a Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module (SOBDMC) and Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) software update. Ford is anticipated to begin Over-The-Air (OTA) deployment to update the SOBDMC an BECM software for affected vehicles in July 2022. Alternatively, owners will have the option to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to complete the software update. There will be no charge for this service."

It's a first attempt at a fix just like the Bolt software fix. I'm fine with the software fix but eventually we know the part needs to be replaced for GTs at least.

We do? I've yet to see that in any official communication.

Q. What is the cause of the issue?

A. The design and part-to-part variation of the high voltage battery main relay switch is not robust to the heat generated during DC fast charging and multiple wide open pedal events.

---

The part has a design flaw for "multiple wide open pedal events" which to me... happens on GT models more because the motors are WAY MORE power hungry.

Agree. And a software fix is inherently detrimental to the performance of the vehicle. What is yet to be seen is how detrimental is it and as drivers do we ultimately care.

You're leaving out the contribution of DC fast charging. It's theoretically possible, that simply scaling back charge rate a couple percent when potential overheating is detected could completely mitigate the issue.

I'm not saying you're wrong that software might not completely solve the issue. But at this point anyone making definitive claims about the need to replace hardware are misrepresenting opinions and conjecture as fact.
