Wifi home connections for the MME is pretty useless. Unless you really care about getting logs/data to Ford as fast as possible. Updates etc don't download on the home wifi, regardless of what Ford says. It's never sent updates down, that's only coming down via AT&T cell towers.
Really? So could that be why I'm not getting updates? My cell coverage isn't great and I park inside a garage. The Ford updates don't go over WiFi??!?!?

Correct. OTAs only come through AT&T cellular. If you have poor AT&T signal, they will not download. You must be in an area with good AT&T signal for the car to download an OTA. The car will download these OTAs while it is traveling through a good coverage area. ??

Nope, cell only or force fed via FDRS. They even posted a big thing on here about making sure you're on home wifi, not knowing that it didn't actually do anything for updates. We've confirmed many many megs of data going out of the car and very little ever going in.

I live in a crappy cell area, you know in the middle of a metropolis. I know for a fact AT&T sucks at my house because I had them for 8 years before dropping them in favor of an ever slightly better T-mobile, which also has crap 5g coverage for me. AT&T's LTE was non-existant in my area, T-mo has LTE but crap 5g. Can't win.

Though it's got a learning curve.
Might help you find a tower to park under and read a book. I've decided to take the force feeding route.

OK, so I went out to the car first without my telephone and the first screen shows the Wi-Fi on the car screen, but since I didn’t connect to Apple Pay, the Wi-Fi stayed on the top of my phone as well. So when I enable Apple play in the car, the Wi-Fi still stayed at the top of the screen in the car, but the Wi-Fi disappears on your Phone. So if I wanted to use Wi-Fi on my phone, I had to disconnect from Apple play on the phone, but I did have the 5G at the top of my phone. But in the driveway, it does stay connected to Wi-Fi even with Apple Pay connected it appears it’s just not available on your phone Wi-Fi, that is .

Jerry, are you saying your prom date in 74' is the same woman that made the 50 year mark with you?

That picture hurts the eyes!! Sad to see such a cool ride smashed in. Did you feel "funny" buying a Datsun (and for the younger viewers, they are now Nissan) back in 76'? That was just about when the Big 3 lost site of the consumers and the gas crisis happened. The beginning of the Japan auto invasion.

This is false, I've had several (including the last 6.14) updates stream in via WiFi. I'm connected at home and that's the only place I get OTA updates.

I'm not here to promote using WiFi, but saying you won't get updates unless you're on cellular only is not true. Zero sense for Ford to exclude a free/faster network connection for updates.

I don't know where this "OTA updates only over cellular" came from but it's not true and I'm tired of seeing it repeated.

You get your OTA updates when Ford decides your VIN is eligible. That's it. Connection method to their update servers is not a factor.

All of my OTA updates were over WiFi, and in one case I had 3 updates IN A ROW. I kept flipping between "Ford Assistant" and "Software Updates" after the previous update (to force a new check) then clicked "UPDATE NOW". For whatever reason Ford decided I was eligible for the 3 in a row. I was on WiFi the entire time for all 3 updates that came in within 2 hours. I was connected to WiFi the entire 2 hours and 3 updates.

The flipping between screens did NOT change my eligibility, it only asked the update servers for the latest available and Ford had authorized those 3 for my VIN. That's the only thing that controls when you get them.

While it is true that OTAs will only come when your VIN group is up for an OTA, a lot of us have logs showing kilobytes and megabytes of upstream travel over wireless, but nothing downstream for our cars. Your car may have been on WiFi, but it's likely that the downloads took place over the car's cellular connection. ??

Likewise, there are updates that trigger other updates. This is commonly seen in FDRS updates where a GWM update may trigger a TCU update. If OTAs were queued out of sequence for your car, it's quite possible that the update queued on Monday would be triggered when the update queued on Thursday was installed. ?‍♂?
