Yeah, I just did a double-take and was like, "wait a minute, that car and drive way looks exactly like mine". Do you need help taking a photo of your own car? ?
Ok ok I just took a screenshot from Ford pass and used that instead - for car forum diplomacy lol

Not sure what your comment was in regard to, but…

There really is no sensible debate about nesting the trunk button under settings.

First, there’s a reason every car I’ve ever owned, except the Mach E, had a physical trunk button. Because it’s important for the driver to “pop the trunk” from behind the wheel. So yeah, the average person wants it. And yet Ford replaced the trunk button with a max defrost button, even though that’s already on the fixed climate control section of the SYNC screen. Two one-tap methods for max defrost. Zero one-tap method for the trunk.

And I don’t need to be an expert UI designer to point out that the trunk button is not a setting. Because it isn’t. When my son says “yo dad, pop the trunk!” I don’t say “sure, let me just change that setting.”

It is stupid design, and Ford should fix stupid things. Easily fixable stupid things. And yes, we’ve pointed this out to @Ford Motor Company many, many times.
Dude, you can't find the hatch button? It's right here:

How hard was it to swap the button?
It was the easiest mod I have done to my car. You have to run one wire, pop off the idiotic max defrost button that nobody uses, and pop on the hatch button.

Connect the wire to the new button and the fuse box in front of the passenger footwell, and that's it. So easy. It takes about 30 minutes. And I use it every time I go shopping.

@markboris did the original work to put one in, and this is an iteration on his groundbreaking project. I will find the thread and update this post with the link.

It's long, but I will find the page where you can use a new hatch button in the headlight switch assembly. I got one for an Explorer off of eBay for around $30.

Here is where @i8iridium introduced using a button in the headlight switch assembly instead of a new button:

And this forum is awesome.

Yeah, but from your bio, that's all the way in Virginia, a bit of a reach for us in California. Don't think my arm can stretch that far. ;)

If Ford won't put the often asked for trunk & frunk icons on the top band, fine.

However, how about not having the screen turn off when you open the door after you are in park and "stopped" !!!!

Keep the screen on until the car is locked or after a set time duration after doors open and close.
It's not that hard.

This way, if you forget to pop the trunk / frunk before you open the door, you don't have to cycle the start/stop button just to pop the trunk / frunk.

Other cars I own don't kill the screen as soon as you open the door after you have parked/stopped.
Come on Ford, it's not that hard.

Having the option to pop the trunk / frunk "disappear" is beyond annoying.

I may eventually break down and do this, although the idea of “just running one wire” doesn’t sound so easy to me. I’ve been holding out hope that @Ford Motor Company would just do the right thing and fix its stupid software design. I don’t mean stupid in an argumentative sense - I mean it is quite literally stupid, moronic, asinine, etc. to nest a trunk opening button under settings. It isn’t a setting. It is a control. A control so commonly used that a physical button for trunk opening has been a mainstay in a big number of vehicles, including most Fords! I’m hard pressed to think of a Ford in the last several decades, before the Mach E, that didn’t have it. Instead we get two buttons for max defrost. What in the actual eff?

Yeah, I understand. But, as someone pointed out earlier, the screen shuts off when you open the door. I like to hit the button as I am opening the door, or right after I have opened it. Adding a button to the Sync screen will not be useful for me, because the screen will be off when I want to use it.

Your car is defective. I love my physical hatch button.
That’s the one that came with the right size battery, correct?

Every single day I pick up my daughter:
Pull up past where I need to be in the pickup lane, go to shift to R, overshoot and hit park, shift back to R so I can get close to the curb to let others pass. Hit unlock doors, hit settings, hit hatch button on drive Mode screen, twice if the gods favor me that day. She tosses bag, hits close on hatch, gets in passenger side, lifts the seat into the highest position and plays with sun visor to look at herself. I shift to drive and check my Suma mirror for traffic and continue my drive.
I don’t have to back up into that space I do, but because I have to be in park to open it I have become a creature of habit. I’d LOVE if it auto shifted to park when the gate opened.

If you drove a Tesla, it would automatically know you want to open the hatch, and open it for you.
