Hi Everyone,
My SatNav needs are fairly simple as the majority of my year is spent going to places that I know very well. For occasional road trips I have found ABRP suits me well although I do not use the paid version and pass the route through to Apple maps on Car Play. Now that the new version has been released I am now considering purchasing an OBDII dongle in order to pass live vehicle data to the App. Is there anyone on the Forum with good experience on using this method and the ABRP recommended OBDLink CX dongle. Grateful for any feedback.

Regards
John

With GoogleMaps and Android Auto, no dongle is needed.

Apple Maps was working better, than abrp , for me on my last drive. It made suggestions as to where to stop and allowed you to look for alternatives.

Calibrated ABRP with the dongle has always been accurate within a few percent.

Apple Maps is always 15-20% off at the start of a trip and then works itself out over a few hours.

But now that I’ve driven up and down the country a couple times I pretty much know where/when I’ll charge anyway and just use whatever GPS app I want.

I use ABRP (paid version) with OBDLink CX https://a.co/d/hhxpTMs . I plan my routes in ABRP and run it in background while Google map is my primary navigation. I do not like ABRP as primary navigation in city or unknown roads, but may use when I'm close to the charger.

I do not like how Apple Maps or Google maps find chargers so ABRP in background helps to adjust during unexpected situations.

I have a different ODH but most seem to work OK from what I have read. I use ABRP with OBD & Car Scanner & the built in satnav which I actually find quite good for keeping me informed on Traffic etc almost as good as TomTom TBH.
Funny you asking this question to day as yesterday I was in Penarth Wales to my home 122mls away, the Ford Sat Nav route adjusted mileage (original showing 184mls) showed 155mls range & said I wouldn't need a charge. So I also fitted my OBD & ABRP & I have to say the Ford Route Planner was correct & ABRP showed similar results got home with 50mls range left. I did drive back car fully at a steady 61MPH as weather as not that good with rain & quite dark in places. Hope that helps. PS I have paid ABRP

IMHO: two of the most clear ABRP advantages over Ford Nav is automatically adding compatible Tesla Superchargers and Favorite charging network feature.

I have listed the TESLA Chargers available in UK in my Favourites & Charging Points in Ford & ABRP. In UK not all TESLA chargers are available;lable to non Tesla

In the US, if one enters their vehicle and that they possess an adapter, all the non-compatible Tesla locations are not shown. I would assume that it works similar in the UK, by entering your vehicle, and the charging ports it uses (CCS2), then you wouldn't see non-compatible locations. If you are, that's a bug.

Like @RickMachE said, no OBD needed with ABRP if you are using Android Auto, ABRP pulls the info from the AA connection similar to Google Maps. Currently ABRP is even better because Google Maps got a bug in a recent update and stopped showing the miles to destination in the instrument cluster, ABRP still shows it. The disadvantage of routing with ABRP in the car is that it chooses some curious route options every once in a while like leaving the freeway and getting right back on it. I use it mostly for long trips to navigate to multiple chargers or on fairly well known routes that I just want a route in the background to keep me honest.

Most high-quality OBD readers capable of BLE (Bluetooth low energy) will work with ABRP and get you slightly more accuracy than the AA connection as the OBD can access some more information than the AA connection. Your choice of the OBD CX is a highly regarded choice and I believe it is recommended by ABRP in one of their help articles or blog.... I remember reading it somewhere but can't remember where...

And if you are still inclined to get an OBD, check it's compatibility with ABRP. Mine does not make the connection.

Please, what does ODH stand for? Internet search returns a lot of possibilities, none of which make any sense in the context of this post.
