An interesting gesture from Ford.

Yep. We have several other Ford's that will visit the dealer for service so that's $150 off our next bill.
So last year I posted that a software update had broken my driver facing camera. Which meant I could not use blue cruise. This went on about six months but because my car was already out of warranty dealer would charge me full price to replace the module. Someone suggested I reach out to customer service so I did. Luckily for me I landed with literally the nicest human on earth and she promised to work with the dealer. So instead of $1300 she got me a 50% discount and I paid $650. This was not the end of the saga. Even after installing the camera dealer could not get it programmed and kept blaming it on Fords servers. I left my car for 2 weeks and they couldn’t do it. I left my car for a few days at a time for several more times and finally last month they were able to program and I got blue cruise back. My issue was that I missed out on 6 months of blue cruise. The agent at ford also worked with the dealer and got me a full refund. And now ford has sent me an interesting gift as a token of appreciation. See pics. All in all, even though it was an ordeal and the dealer is terrible. Ford came through for me.

I never received nice gifts from GM when I had my Silverado for getting recall work done, oh wait.

Does that pad work better that the other one?
It depends what design you end up getting. They shipped me the exact part that I had originally, but made 2 years later. I tested them, and not surprisingly they functioned exactly the same.

I think they fixed that while car was there but my complaint was about the camera.
What you received is the standard for the HVBJB recall being done, except for the cancellation of the charges for the repair work you had done.

Sadly, I don't expect the new pad to charge my phone any better than the old one, since my phone doesn't have wireless charging... ?

I take my MME into the dealer tomorrow for the camera issue (actually in person software fix). My car is under warranty so not worried there. However I've read other people who have this problem that are out of warranty being charged to fix it. I cannot get my head around this: Ford directly caused the issue with their OTA in December, how in the hades is the fix a financial responsibility of the owner?!

Because it’s out of warranty and not covered by a recall.

No different than blaming Ford for building a crappy transmission that breaks outside of warranty.

To avoid such frustration you can choose to buy an extended warranty, turn updates off, or know that you may have to pay for repairs out of pocket.

I can’t wrap my head around why people think any repairs outside of warranty would be free. That was never the case with any other car you’ve owned or any other manufacturer you have dealt with.

Yes, OTA software updates from Ford are free (even outside of warranty).

But a trip to the local dealer service center? Never free outside of warranty and recalls.

No, it's not the same. Parts do wear out or break on their own. This is more like Ford coming to my house and deliberately smashing something.

No it’s like you letting them in the door with no liability and they accidentally break something.

You can wait for another OTA to fix or pay out of pocket to fix it at the dealer.

If you want a car analogy, it’s like getting hit by a driver with no insurance.

Ford lets you know by the warranty terms when they stop paying for trips to the dealer service center.

And you do have the option to turn the updates off when out of warranty.

I don’t expect people to like it, but that’s how it is with Ford and every other manufacturer on the planet.

Did you have the HVBJB recall done? Ford was sending these out to everyone that had the HVBJB recall work done. There's a separate thread discussing it.
Really. I had my HVJB done under warranty and did not get one....

Was your car part of the recall? Just because it was done under warranty doesn't mean it was on the recall list. Only folks on the recall list have gotten the "gift". Not everyone has gotten it yet, ford just started sending it out. May take a few weeks/months before everyone who had the recall done receives it.

Or if you're a 2nd owner (like me), you may not get it. Ford sent the stuff to the original purchaser in my case.

Not to rain on your parade, but this “gift” has nothing to do with your difficulties with your camera. Ford is sending this to everyone who had the HVBJB recall work done. And it is pretty close to worthless. Well, I mean, the $50 is worth about $50 but that’s about it.
NOT “everyone” ? The only thing I’ve gotten is 30,000 FordPesos (a riff on SkyPesos if anyone gets it ?)

I'd say it's worth more than literally nothing. I'm seeing why I'm not on this forum much anymore lol.

I spent my points on a ford backpack (with emergency stuff) and a grocery bag organizer. I have to say that the quality of both items is top notch
I'm not seeing those items on Ford's site.

Nah. We are all losers for buying a half baked vehicle and a company that’s bad about OTAs and has a stealership network.

Sounds like you are talking about Genesis. Lol. I hope my 23 Mach E isn't as bad as the GV70 I'm coming from. ?
