I have seen some really strange things on here, this is the strangest.

I guess it works but wow.
Next, to handle the HVBJB issues, we should tie a string to the rear electric motor, and then drive the car in reverse until the string is completely wound against the motor. Then, if the car fails due to error, we can just lift the rear of the car and pull the string really fast to get the motor spinning. :D

It is sad that a jury-rigged thing like this has to be thought of, and that a brand new problem like this is introduced into a 3 year old vehicle.

Is this happening on the non "inhibit" updates too? Or just the major ones that don't let you use the car? Assuming the latter, in theory, you'd only need to do this once you OK an update to install, no? So you'd just turn off auto updates, then prep a setup like this and start the update.

What's the status of the OBD when this occurs? Does it have power? If yes, then having a Wi-Fi connected OBD left in the OBD port could allow connectivity to Forscan??

As far as "we" (the forum and the folks on the forum who have been trying to understand this) have been able to determine, it's not happened as a module gets updated. It's happening even when no modules are being updated. It might be the result of some module having already been updated in the past.

Ah, OK. So it's not necessarily coinciding with an update completing, but possibly sometime (possibly at random) after some update may have completed.

Forscan uses the OBDII port as a conduit to the CAN buses that suspected to be at fault when this error occurs. If the suspicions are correct, the port wouldn't be useful.

HOWEVER, I don't think anyone has experienced this issue while having an OBDII dongle plugged in to test. It's possible the suspicions are wrong and that there would be some ability to communicate either via the HS CAN bus or the MS CAN bus.

It’s a bug that can show up at any time once you’ve received the relevant OTA. Some folks have speculated it’s the
easy entry OTA (oh the sweet irony) but nothing definitive yet. For example I haven’t received updates in 2ish weeks but just had this issue in my car yesterday morning.

23.5 gt, I got 5 updates last week (including the easy entry one). The first three I backed my car into the garage and left the windows down. The last two threw caution to the wind and didn't, no issues all installed properly.

This is a great idea as far as access. I had thought when this bug started showing up that a coat hanger could probably be introduced and folded around to grab the latch. kind of like back in the day when we had the door lock (I can't even remember what they were called, you pushed them down to lock the door and pulled up to unlock)

Just curious if using the app to lower the windows does not work as well in this lockout?
People who have had this lockout issue have tried the windows to no effect. ??

Hey, it’s a great idea. Nobody probably thought about that. On a humorous side, I’d love to see a cartoon of two cars side-by-side with tin cans in a string, talking and one guy in another car, trying to open his door with that string?

This is a very creative idea. My 23.5 has only done updates at the preset time, 1AM and while in my garage. Is there any reason you couldn’t leave a window down if expecting an update?

You can, but you'd be better off leaving the window open all the time. The problem isn't limited to only when getting a new update.
