So I had some real thin nylon string laying around and I said let me go try this and I actually did it on my driver side, not the passenger side, I’m not sure if the passenger side operates different from the driver side, but man that thing open very easy I hardly had to pull on that string I believe only pulled one time. I had the keys far enough away and you could hear it starting to beep a little bit inside the car and then about 10 seconds later the horn started going off.

Very good that it panics for doors opening when locked.

People have tried the rear hatch. It's also locked.
Shoot, not even the manual ones, huh?

back to arm and hammer I guess. ?‍♂

The non-power lift gates will not unlatch. They remain locked. ??

I just wish this thread would be seen (and publicized) by some national car news outlets. I think that would pressure Ford into fixing this issue sooner. I’d love to see Farley try to talk his way out of this mess.
Well, in the meantime, just in case anything happens, I got my black nylon string today so I went to work with my scissors, my blue tape and my matches lol to get rid of the phrase and I think it’s hidden pretty well and it’s accessible by the doorhandle and the color of it in the way, I’ve got it in there. You can’t even see it, really looking Hard you might, but at night you’re not gonna notice it.

Doing this string thing just feels so cheap. This is the kind of thing I'd expect to do on a Yugo or even an old Volkswagen beetle. Not on a $50k car.
It’s only there until we know for sure this is not gonna happen but like I said the fact that you can’t see it is a plus, this is only assuming I have a good charge on my 12 V battery This is only being caused by something they recently put out there chances are it’ll be removed pretty soon, but just in case not that’s why I said it’s not obvious. I can come off in like one second better than standing on side of the road for an hour waiting for a tow truck.

I wish it were only a $50,000 car, and don’t talk about my Yugo like that ! Start

Aw, too bad! I was thinking I could rig a version of this for my Uber passengers to open the door from the inside as less than 1% can open the door without my verbal help, despite the labels I carefully worded and place on the inside of the rear doors. Most of them succeed in
Some 2023 owners have been getting completely locked out of their Mach-E's due to a software glitch. The doors will not unlock by any means, and jumping the leads in the bumper to open the frunk will not work. It's a total lockout situation that so far has required a tow to a dealer to fix. It's some type of communication glitch where the doors won't receive the unlock signal (not the 12V battery dying). I've previously given a technical synopsis here.

I've been trying to come up with a temporary solution to help 2023 owners avoid or mitigate the total lockout situation since it will take Ford a month or two to deploy a fix. I'd recommend doing a preventative 12V reset if you can (disconnect negative battery terminal for 10 minutes), this should reboot all modules to minimize the chance of a glitch, but I have no definitive proof it will prevent the issue. Besides the 12V reset, I've come up with an alternative access method in case the frunk will not open.

Note: This is not necessary on 2021 and 2022 vehicles. We don't have the complete lockout bug.

If you are worried about security, you may call a locksmith to gain access to your vehicle instead. This method allows you to gain access yourself.

Materials:
  • Thin rope
  • Masking tape
  • 10 mm socket wrench (keep in glove compartment)
Procedure:

1. Tie the rope to the passenger front door handle as shown:
IMG_3158.jpeg

2. Route the rope horizontally and down to the bottom of the door, using tape as shown.

IMG_3155.jpeg

3. Cut the rope a couple inches longer than the bottom of the door, and tape the end of the rope to the bottom of the door:

IMG_3153.jpeg

The rope cannot be seen outside of the car unless you are on hands and knees looking up at it. The only visible part would be on the armrest, I used orange rope for visibility, but you may want to choose black rope instead.

4. In the event of a lockout situation, detach the end of the rope under the door, and pull the string out from the slot between the front and rear doors (you will need to pull to rip the tape).

5. Once you have enough slack, hold the string slightly above the level of the door latch, and pull firmly. In my testing I had to pull the string twice to release the door.

IMG_3161.jpeg

6. Once you're in the vehicle, pull the driver door handle twice to open it, and pull the hood release latch twice to open it.

7. Pull up on the edges of the top frunk panel sharply to remove it and expose the negative battery terminal.

8. Loosen (but do not remove) 10 mm nut on negative battery terminal, remove terminal, and set aside so it can't touch for 5-10 minutes.

9. Put negative battery terminal back on and tighten nut. Be prepared for a spark when it touches.

10. Car should now wake up and you should be able to resume normal operation. If the battery is completely dead, you may need a jump start first.

NOTE: I was skeptical of this working because of the double lock mechanism of the front door handles, but it appears pulling the handle twice bypasses that so it will open. This will not work on the rear handles since they have no mechanical operation.

Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk since it provides a potential route for a thief to enter your car. Do not keep key fobs or valuables inside. They can steal your stuff but will not be able to start the car without a fob. With black string, I think it will be sufficiently hidden as to not arouse suspicion.
i gave a friend a ride last night, and she commented on how “fancy” my car is. Then I showed her my fancy string and painters tape door opener. ?

Do they know what's causing it? It would be hard to fix if they haven't identified why some cars have this issue and others don't.

I think I'm going to leave the string in place permanently, because it's a hell of a lot easier to get into the car this way if the battery ever dies, and I can leave my jump box in the frunk.

Like I was saying you can’t see it now that I got this nylon black string and melted the ends. I almost couldn’t find it yesterday evening and the blue tape on the inside you only See if I open the door. Now, what do you need to be careful of you don’t want to use some super strong tape because then you may not be able to pull the string if the tape is too tough so you want painters tape like that blue but maybe a different color so it can break loose when you pull it

The irony is that you are probably right. If Ford had designed it, it would have required a module that must be updated OTA, only use string from a single factory in some obscure corner of the world, and only worked on Tuesday.
If Ford had implemented it, we wouldn't have it yet, just an email about how delivery is delayed.

I really don't want to have to explain to a friend or family passenger why there is a string attached to a door latch. I'll live dangerously and take my chances.
