so I noticed the 2026 Toyota CHR has apple maps preconditioning and when I looked it up the 2026 Mach E now offers it. Anyone think they'll back date it to us? I was going to switch to android next month but now maybe I'll hold off...
Theres another thread on this recent development. You might want to take a look at that.

Just be aware that its not Ford who were dragging their feet about Apple Maps preconditioning. There may very well be a reason why it’s only 26 atm. Ford has for quite some time been well aware of the desire for preconditioning in Apple maps.

That had been the prevailing but unsubstantiated narrative until now.

But if my same phone with the same iOS version can trigger preconditioning on a 2026 but not a 2025 or older, the limitation is now clearly on Ford’s end and not Apple.

26s have different hardware and firmware. They’re extremely different compared to a 21. Is that the primary reason? Meh, correlation doesn’t equal causation, but it’s a start.

Also note the restrictions on when it will precondition. The requirement that it be an Apple maps selected station and not a user selected DCFC station is not something that Ford has control over. Plus it wasn’t Ford that cited privacy concerns for not implementing the feature.

Finally, take a look at other EV manufacturer’s who have CarPlay. You may find that this type of preconditioning using Apple Maps is a mach-e only thing. But only in 26s. Let’s not discuss the lack of a precondition now soft button, though. ;)

I have a feeling it will be rolled out (slowly) to other years as well.
I think so too. Just like the in-app climate controls. I’m sure all the model years have varying hvac modules and firmware but they were finally able to roll it out universally. šŸ¤ž

The hardware difference on the '25 vs. the '26 is negligible. The difference in hardware between the '25 and earlier models is pretty significant. I would guess that 2025s could likely be candidates for get Apple Maps preconditioning. Earlier models might be a little more difficult to guess on. šŸ¤”šŸ©

The earlier models already have Android Auto/Google Maps preconditioning why couldn't they use the same hardware for Apple Maps preconditioning.

It’s more an issue of the code stack than the hardware. If Ford decides it’s worth their time to develop, maintain, and support the code stack for older hardware platforms, we will get It. If they don’t, we won’t. šŸ¤”šŸ©

So question... if I bought a $50 Android, and just use my iPhone hotspot in the car, then I would be able to pre-condition the car, with Google Maps, and still could sign into all my apps on the droid device til it rolls out... plus then I could precondition with the charger as the destination, and not have to be put in via a route planner like Apple.. right? or have I have simplified my resolution to have preconditioning available for my '23 MME

I'm switching from android to apple. Just so I'm clear, if I run Google maps or waze on apple, it still won't precondition? You have to be on both Android and Google maps for that to work?

Yes, I did this for a while before switching to Android full time.

Yes, but if you are using wifi for data on the Android you will need to connect via cable. Can’t use wifi and wireless Android Auto at the same time.

But I also see that your location is Texas on your profile. Preconditioning is not needed and won’t even do anything most of the time. Only when it’s very cold like below 40°F.

So all of that extra work with the Android will make no functional difference most of the time.
