Thank you - all sorted now - was previously connected via Bluetooth only. Somehow Carplay was switched off - update maybe?
Quite possibly. I recall having an enormous number of Carplay connectivity issues around the updates you're on in the UK, EU, and EuroZone.

I've had Announce Notifications turned off since day 1 with this phone. I turned it on and then disabled CarPlay, then turned it off again. Hopefully it won't bug me any more. If it does I'm considering just killing CarPlay. Stupidest thing in the world to interrupt my driving with an annoying notification that I've gotten a text message. ??
FYI: I am quite confident you are in Sync4A in your MME. Lower end Lightnings can come equipped with a 12" landscape screen that runs Sync 4. Mach Es and higher end Lightnings come with the 15.5" portrait screen and Sync 4A.
Have you tried asking Siri to open Apple Maps (yes, I know Siri is the assistant that ārides the short bus to schoolā, but this is something it CAN do)?As Sherlock Holmes said to Dr Watson - " this is a two pipe problem!" I have deleted/reinstalled Apple Maps from my iPhone and deleted/reinstalled my MME from Carplay on my iPhone. Same result - no matter what I do Apple Maps no longer appears as an option on the MME screen. It used to work well when required so maybe an update has caused this? I am currently on 6.3.0. I have attached shots of my iPhone and MME screens.

Mine takes over the entire screen with CarPlay whenever I get a message and cuts out siriusXM. I still like the feature to be able to hear my messages and reply to them.
Car Play works the same on every vehicle, as the vehicle does not change the experience. What CarPlat does is they dedicate spaces of the dock certain types of apps. If you donāt see AppleMaps in the dock, it just means another app registered as a map took its place as the one in the dock. Simply swipe side to side until you see Apple Maps. If you donāt see it in any of the screens, double check your iPhone to make sure you still have it installed on you phone. Like you, I prefer Apple Maps, unfortunately for trips, I find I have to use ford navigation in order to get recharge options along the route. Apple Maps does fairly good at this, but it just isnt quite on par yet.
I see you got this figured out but just wanted to throw in, when CarPlay starts up, you can set it to open a specific app instead of the last one that was open. I have mine set so when CarPlay starts up, I have it open up to Apple Maps and it also starts playing the top 100 US songs via Apple Music. I used to have it open the garage door when it connects and close the door when it disconnects but that became a nuisance because many times Iād be in the garage working on the car, CarPlay would start up then the garage door would open when I didnāt want it to.
Do you set this up on the car or on the phone? I try to turn off the car with the 3 screens showing but sometime I forget. I think your idea would be better.
Hey Matt, you create an Automation for CarPlay in your phone. If you aren't familiar with creating Shortcuts and Automations, there are a lot of tutorials online how to do it but if you want me to post here what to do, just let me know. When CarPlay starts up, do you want a particular app to open (Maps, Music, Phone, Messages, Podcasts, etc.)?
