Hi, newbie to this forum and it's been super helpful to understand my GT better. Not my first EV (traded in a Tesla 3 for my GT, also have a Rivian R1T on order) and it's very interesting as an old school ICE pistonhead to see firsthand the different approaches being taken by manufacturers. *cough cough realistic vs. optimistic GOMs*

I've searched the forum and the owners manual but didn't see anything on this question: With one pedal driving enabled, it doesn't matter whether or not I deactivate the Auto Hold function, my car continues to hold itself at stop. The only time it doesn't hold itself is if I turn off one pedal driving AND turn off Auto Hold. Is this correct?

Also, I did notice that, at least on my car (December 2021 production, have blue cruise working) the engagement & release of the auto hold is clunky. There's a slight jerk and noise as it engages or releases. Is this typical? On my old 3, it was completely imperceptible and I also found Tesla's algorithms were much more consistent on the one pedal deceleration. Still like my GT much better than the 3 so hopefully these things will be tweaked out in future OTAs. Thanks!

Yes.

Congrats with GT and welcome to the forum!

Yes, this is normal. The car uses blended braking, so it will purely use regen whether you are using 1PD or the brake pedal, unless you require a certain amount of stopping force, at which point friction brakes apply. When you come to a stop, the friction brakes engage to keep you at the stop, which is the clunkiness they're working on. They've already released updates to try and address this, my GTPE does it a bit smoother now.

I'm not sure how you'd expect 1PD to function at a stop? With the accelerator fully de-pressed, that would be the same as you fully pressing the brake. There is no creep unless you have 1PD and auto hold off, as you've stated.

If you would like to have creep but like 1PD sometimes, you can utilize "Low" which basically makes your car regen instead of fully coasting. So you'd have 1PD off, auto hold off (since you seem to not like it) and then just press the 'L' on the shifter when you want "on demand" 1PD (without auto hold).

Wow, helpful and quick reply, thanks! To answer your question, I thought that with 1PD activated the car would stay stopped with my foot off the accelerator only on flat ground. What confused me is the behavior at an uphill or downhill stop. Without autohold engaged, I thought that even with 1PD it would not stay still and follow gravity.

In other words, I thought that 1PD uses regen only to slow down to a stop (on flat ground) and then the car is held there by inertia. If on a slope, then it would not stay still because of gravity. If auto hold is engaged, then friction brakes are applied once regen brings it to a stop.

Thanks for the clarification - 1PD activates friction brakes once stopped, regardless of whether you've engaged autohold.

(I actually have gotten very used to not having creep and now have to remind myself to hold the brake pedal at red lights when in my Ram truck.)

If you analyze what 1PD stands for you’ll understand why it makes no difference lol.
what you’re looking for is the L button and 2PD with auto hold off.

"With one pedal driving enabled, it doesn't matter whether or not I deactivate the Auto Hold function, my car continues to hold itself at stop. "

Yes - as other have said.

FYI I tested Auto-hold in various parking garage (with inclines) and noticed no difference when 1PD is on. I was glad it did not roll down the garage incline with it off - which is what my ID.4 would do (no auto-hold nor 1PD).

I also test Auto-hold on and off for a few days on the street - listening with the clunk at braking and that persisted with regardless whether the setting was on/off.
