It has always been there.
Are you sure?
Got my car in February and I‘m pretty sure it wasn’t there then.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time I wasn’t very observant! ?

I'm positive. I tried auto mode on my way home from the dealer when I purchased my car in March. It was even there in the pre-production model I checked out during the roadshow in October of 2020. Not to mention its inclusion in the first version of the owner's manual that was released in July of 2020.

I've had my Mustang for 6 months and living in SoCal there are so many features I haven't used yet. Seat warmers, steering wheel warmers, window defrosters, the heater itself, heck I haven't even driven in rain yet so I haven't used the wipers. Some day these things will come in handy and I hope they work when needed.

My FE had it that was built in December 2020.

Did the new Sync update give me an automatic seat heater or was that there before? Maybe I’m just now noticing with the cooler temps??

That choice is new for me too. Just appeared this morning.
Prior to this morning, my only choices were Off, 1 bar, 2 bars or 3 bars.
Now I have Off, A, 1 bar, 2 bars or 3 bars.

Other things I have noticed with the update.....Sync boots in about 5 seconds now. Very quick. It's been ready before I can get my seat belt on. Very nice.

Also see a choice in the charge setting screen to "touch and hold to reset driving history".

Same here. I got my car in Feb and it didn't have the "A" choice.
That is brand new for me as of this morning.

I'm thinking that noticing it is what has changed ?
Possibly, but I am pretty sure the A is new. It jumped right out at me this morning and I have been using the heated seats for the last couple weeks. I might have a photo from before......will try and find it and see. Maybe the A was there and I never noticed?

To be clear.......automatic seats have always worked. They are usually on when I get into the car but at one of the bar settings.....either 1 bar or 2 bars. This morning my car didn't precondition for the departure time so it was cold in there and the seat warmer was not turned on so I did it manually and that is when I noticed the A. My car is a bit like the Matrix, when there is a glitch.....something has changed. :)

Today's glitch was no departure time activation. Happens sometimes. Hasn't ever been 100%
Yesterday's glitch was the radio card was not present on the secondary portion of the Sync screen. I was just gone and I have never ever deleted that. (only way I know to delete the cards is to swipe down.....). Interesting fact.....radio was still playing, even without a card. So, it bugged me enough that I went to the little pony up top and re-enabled the radio card. After doing that, the SYNC screen would boot up super fast. It is now all started and ready to go in about 5 seconds. I've timed it. :)

It sounds like some of the MME's it was already there as one guy says he has it and he's still not on 1.7.1. While the rest of them received it with the update.

I'm pretty sure mine did NOT have an automatic heat seater prior to the Sync update. I've used it several times before the update and never saw the "A", just the 1,2 & 3 bars.

Ok, must have always been there; maybe with the update it put on the "Automatic" setting as a default and then the cooler temps triggered it on. I really like it; it works very well for me. I don't have to monitor it...

On another note does the heated steering wheel back off the heat to some degree after being on for a while or am I just getting used to the temp. Seems like a theme to my questions today. I HATE BEING COLD LOL!!!
I agree on the heated wheel temp backing off. At the end of a drive, it's just ok, especially when I'm keeping the cabin temp at 63F to minimize resistive heating.

My Mustang GT does this; I love it. It turns on the butt warmer when it's cold and the butt cooler when it's hot.
There’s a butt cooler too? Guessing just the lower seat portion and not for the back rest part?

My Feb FE got the auto setting after major upgrades at the dealer a month ago (equivalent to 1.7.1 plus some modules).
Used the heated seats almost daily since I got the car, it definitely wasn't there before.

automatic heated seat has always been an option, and according to manual it comes on based on the temp settings in your climate control system.

The interesting thing I noticed, BEFORE the 1.7 update, the seat would be bright red when on, now the only way to tell it's on is the seat gets warmed. It appears that the light bar underneath the seat when in auto mode always stays on.

After reading the different responses to this as well as my own experience; it seems some of the MME's had the "Automatic" feature prior to update (as you did) and some did not (as mine did not). Seems to go with the theme of the MME as far as software. I think it is just Ford adjusting and adapting on the fly as they are making them (which is a shocking and welcome concept for a Legacy Auto).
