Battery Leak

I got the dreaded warning that there is a problem with the high voltage battery. The dealer has had my Mach e4x, premium for three weeks and told me today that the there is a leak in the high voltage battery and the entire battery needs to be replaced. Batteries are on back order and they could give me no time frame for repair.
Anyone else have this problem? Can you share your experience with the repair?

I had a leak in my Focus electric. Took nearly 3 months and a second replacement pack sadly. When mine when they pulled one out of a car on the line (they said). I'd get on the phone with the BEV team and get a bigger heavier ball rolling with them backing you for the repair.

Hmmm I highly doubt that battery needs to be replaced, mostly it's the high voltage box.i would ask the dealer what the error code was

Get in touch with the BEV team right away - they can ride service departments in ways we mere mortals can't imagine. Be super nice to them and ask if they can help. Mostly, they will.

Look at the positive - you will get an all new battery. I would suggest if your HVBJB has not been replaced then ask if perhaps they can also replace that along with the batteries. Just makes sense to me.

I agree with @HGxxx . It is likely what is leaking is the coolant loop plates, and not the battery modules.



Wildly guessing, the engineers may be concerned that coolant has entered an unknown number of modules.

Seriously, though- that guess sounds pretty right to me, with my extensive knowledge of battery design, engineering, and manufacturing. Seems logical and engineer-like, at least.

What coolant do they use, I wonder? Hopefully it's compatible with the coatings and insulation and such (of course they tested that, along with the cargo cover, and the 12 volt access, and the heebiejeeby). It's not supposed to get wet in there so it's a problem, anyway, but a bunch of corrosive wet where there should be dry is what I believe is technically known as "a bit worse than what you're hoping for."

I believe this is factoring into the decision to replace the whole battery pack. The HVBJB is in the battery pack assembly. A new battery would have the newer HVBJB. Pop the old battery out, go to the battery store and just pop a new one in. Easy. ? Next up, Ford dealerships using shelves of slightly used battery modules for an awesome power wall and energy staging for DCFC.
