does anyone know if there is a way to check remaining battery life? I can go to the settings on my iPhone and see what my remaining battery life is but I would like to keep track of it in my Mustang Mach-E. Current range after charging is not an accurate indicator. Appreciate any feedback

What do you mean by "battery life"? You phone shows you the state of charge of the car. There is no historical representation of that.

I think he means “state of health.” I think some have found the number using CarScanner, but there’s been some discussion on exactly what it means.

I think he’s referring to the iPhone feature that tells you battery health. Mines currently at 88% of original capacity.

And yes, your car can report your overall battery health but you’ll need an OBD2 reader to see it (<$20 on Amazon and a free app). Search the forums and you’ll find a number of posts on it.

If you are correct, then I'd argue that based on the discussion on this forum, it's close to useless. Plus there's nothing to do about it anyway.

State of overall health, remaining life as it pertains to the 8/100,000 warranty.

Side bar….are tow trucks getting equipped with chargers to assist roadside needs for EV drivers. I would think flat tow would be a royal pain

I think they just haul them up on the flatbed like any other car. Just have to know where to place the hooks. And I doubt it on the charger aspect; although, I have seen articles on rescue services for a quick charge but not from a tow truck.

I had to have my car towed after I blew out a tire. It was towed by the largest towing company in our area. The driver told me they almost exclusively use flatbeds these days. The only time they dispatch a conventional “wrecker” is when they need to pull somebody out of a ditch, which requires longer cables.

SOH - you need an OBD adapter and Car Scanner, but you need the battery at mid 70s and 100% charged. The number displayed may, or may not, correlate with what Ford uses in 8 years / 100,000 miles.

Ford Roadside tows you to the nearest charger. A tow truck would have to be equipped with a DC fast charger for it to be useful, they're not going to sit for 2 to 3 hours waiting for you to have adequate range.

I know that an F150 lightning can charge a mustang marquee and was wondering why a properly equipped tow truck would not be able to charge an electric vehicle, at least give it a few kilowatts to get to a charging station. Similar to putting in 1 gallon of gas

as stated above, you'll need an ODB2 reader and an App like CarScanner to see the 'SOH' parameter. Be aware that if you intend to check it periodically, you'll want to check under similar conditions for best accuracy on relative values. i.e. after a full charge, resting until morning, in a 'room temperature' garage.

flat tow is a royal pain for many reasons including many tow truck drivers may not know where to safely attach tow hooks. The most important thing is to know that there are 2 tow holes under the front that can be used for a T-hook 'bridle'.... and NOTHING in the back unless you've installed a tow-hitch yourself. You CANNOT pull on the battery rails with all the temping holes, it will tear, and cost $30k to replace tray.

and no, a tow truck 'jump starter' will not help you. If they have a monster generator, you might get a roadside charge, but I'd guess there are very few stepping up. You'll likely need a flat-bed transport to nearest public charger if you are out of juice.

Mach-E.

Yes, a Ford Lightning can do that, adding about 6.5kW per hour. At 1.8 miles per kW, that's 11.7 miles of range. If a tow truck is equipped with a 220v charger, they could do the same. There are battery pack solutions on the market, and AAA is testing one.

There's a guy down the street from my mother-in-law's that has a mobile EV charging van. Couldn't tell you much about it (L2? DCFC? Connectors, speed, capacity) but they definitely do exist.

It is POSSIBLE.... but the average running vehicle alternator can really only support maybe 80-100amp load (at 12v ) = 960-1200watts, so L1 charging. So if YOU carry around a 1500watt pure sine inverter (<$300) with jumper cables, and your Mobile Charger with 120v pigtail, you COULD get a charge from any passerby or tow vehicle willing to sit there and charge you long enough to reach a charger..... you would be charging at about 3 miles of range per hour of charging.
