happy Independence Day!!

So I was driving home from work today and all of a sudden on the display in front of me were normally it shows my vehicle and the green lines on each side for my Lanes change to three blue bubbles. Next thing I know the car is driving by itself starts accelerating from 65 to 75 mph and turning by itself. Has anyone experienced this? I firmly pressed on the break and then it switched back to normal. I'll be calling for tomorrow and asking them if something's going on.

The behavior you describe is normal, but for this to occur, certain conditions would have to be met.

Namely both lane centering and adaptive cruise control would have to be enabled, *and* ACC would have to be resumed, by depressing the AAC toggle switch, from a previous cruise at a different speed. If the LC algo finds the lane lines and the fore and aft distance criteria are met, Blue Cruise will enable and the car will drive itself, though the hand nanny may have a say.

Many a time I have resumed ACC on surface streets after a highway run and had to react quickly to keep the acceleration under wraps. After 6 months, I'm better, but still working on getting the thumb logic right.

I mostly agree with @gpgrim. From your description, John, it sounds like you had lane keep assist active, and then you enabled adaptive cruise control. You may have done it by accident as the button is near the left edge of the steering wheel.

The semicircle arc in front of your vehicle is the "adaptive" part -- your vehicle will attempt to follow the one ahead of you at a set following distance, e.g. 3 seconds. Depending on your driver assist settings in the center display, your vehicle may also be attempting to read speed signs (from a combination of the forward camera as well as preloaded map data) and it will adjust the speed based on what it thinks it reads.

The arcs on the left and right sides indicate that the lane centering system is assisting with keeping the vehicle centered between the lane lines. It's like the vertical lines you described (lane keep alert and/or assist), but with slightly more active steering control. (You still need to be in overall control of the wheel.)

Hands-free BlueCruise is the next step beyond what you were seeing. In hands-free mode, the little lane keeping system indicator just left of the odometer turns blue, and most of the rest of the display also turns mostly blue. When that is active, if you deem it safe, you can remove your hands from the wheel.

Ths for this. Like i was saying the car started to drive it self yes i might have hit a cruise control toggle but I've never had it before. I don't understand the three blue bubbles instead of the green lines. The car did accelerate but then actually turned into the left lane by itself. I grabbed the wheel in panic because I had no idea what the hell was going on lol. Applied break and everything went back to normal.

Thank you for responding. Just I'm very sure I did not push any button on the left side of the steering wheel as I drive with my left hand on top of the steering wheel while my right hand is on the bottom right of the steering wheel. Could I have hit a button? Very possibly but I've never done this before. It was just very strange. The car accelerator in by itself blue bubbles around my car on the display instead of the two green lines and then it's switching into the left lane to go around the car in front of me. Once it switched to the left lane I applied the break

You hit the lane centering button on the steering wheel sometime beforehand and lane centering activated as soon as cruise control was engaged and the lane lines were acquired.

The blue bubble around the car means lane centering is active and the car will steer to center itself in the current lane.

This ^^^

It does not change lanes.

And if you broke it, that's not good. Hit the brake instead...
