Yeah. Maybe Ford outsourced to former Boeing engineers. Wait, that belongs in the wrong answers thread. Oh crud… I made the rules: no correct answers. :p
Some of my best friends were Boeing engineers. Well, in recent years, they tell me it’s really McDonnell Douglas dba Boeing. That said, I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for mad dogs ?

Dear God, I hope not. A very long time ago I was responsible for the Auto Pilot/Auto Throttle integration testing for them. MDC engineers were not only stuck in the "that's how we have always done it" mode, it was their religion. This was for certification on the MD-11 in Long Beach. Worst project of my life. In the group of 8 that I worked, we had 2 divorces, a nervous breakdown, and a 34-year-old guy drop dead at work from a heart attack. The PM tried to get us fired when we went home after Jay Gold died at work and we did CPR for almost 40 minutes waiting on paramedics.

I also did a project at Boeing when I worked for Microsoft. Light years ahead in terms of technology and engineering.

Here I am, Job 1. Last successful update was 1.4.0 back in January...
Got 1.6.0 on August 10th, then the broken/unsuccessful 1.7.1 in fall 2021. < SYNC displays "--" for both version and for revision.>. Since then, nothing. No info from Ford. Can Ford advise of a fix -- a fix for non-EAP owners? @Ford Motor Company
Pages 71 and 72 (!) of the "OTA 1.7.1 Stuck, anyone else have issue updating?" thread show that some EAP members have been contacted to arrange a fix at their dealers...

I love the BC. I know a lot of people say they want to drive their own car, but my wife thinks the car drives better than I do. I wouldn’t say that the car ping-pong‘s in the lane, but it does meander a bit. It almost feels like you’re fighting against it when you control the wheel. It let you take your hands completely away, but only for about 30 seconds. It turns itself off when it feels like it can’t negotiate the situation like heavy traffic or big curves.
I kept getting warnings to keep my eyes on the road. I think it was happening because I was driving with one hand, and we’re going around a curve my arm block the sensor. Today I don’t wear sunglasses. I wear transition lenses they get pretty dark. I was not getting a warning to keep my eyes on the road with these glasses.
One thing you have to watch for is it will very subtly decelerate to match traffic. Sometimes I was driving slower than I intended to because I didn’t realize that was happening. I had the front collision avoidance on full so I had to change lanes pretty early to avoid deceleration behind a slower car in the right lane. That will probably take some adjusting on my part.
Overall, I thought it rode very smoothly. It made my drive much more relaxing. My wife complained about my driving a lot less.

I feel like Ford holds back updates if 1 car in 1000 has some little issue during an update. Since folks signed up for early access, I feel like anything up to 1 in 10 failure rate would be acceptable. I think they are being too conservative. If I was in EA I'd be okay going to the dealer to have them unbrick my car (or do it myself with FDRS) if something goes wrong, that would be an understood risk to me by signing up for EA. Let the updates flow for EA members, Ford can be picky once they get to general release IMO.

They are still trying to finalize this whole process. This is all new, so they are using these rollouts to also get their deployment process working more smoothly for the future. We have no idea how many errors or issues they may have seen with some of these deployments. The 1.7.1 issue delayed everything for months while the worked on that because it had the potential to be a much bigger problem if they didn't.

Just because an update competed successfully on a car, doesn't mean it went the way they thought it would, and may be making small refinements.

Once the process is more mature and tested out, we should start seeing more timely updates.

So I have a Job 2 (built January 2022) and it will tell me blue cruise is available via a pop-up on my screen, but when I click the cruise control button all I get is the regular hands-on adaptive cruise control. Any ideas?

BlueCruise only works on certain roads. If you're not on one of those roads, it will never engage.

There is a Netflix show on Boeing called Downfall... the McD influence was featured and it was really disturbing. That culture is broken.

I’ve definitely been on BlueCruise roads…numerous highways in the SF Bay Area. When I’m on the highway the car notifies me when BlueCruise is available

The car notifies you that bluecruise is active any time you turn on cruise control and lane keep assist comes on. Doesn't matter what road it is. That doesn't mean the road you're on is supported.
We have no official way to know what roads are and are not supported.
