Lately, each time I start the car in the morning, I can’t connect with CarPlay. Turns out, the car Bluetooth is turning itself off. Am I doing something wrong, or has another gremlin poked it’s head up?

Bluetooth is actually supposed to be turned off in the car if you’re using CarPlay. The spotty connection is a new bug introduced with the latest version of Sync. With any luck, it will be fixed in the next version.

Am I wrong about CarPlay? I thought the wireless CarPlay connection between the car and the phone was through blue tooth. I know that when I toggle the car’s Bluetooth back on, CarPlay works fine.

CarPlay uses Bluetooth for the initial handshake, but then switches over to WiFi.

This weekend after I received the 3.5.4 update, CarPlay just stopped working over wireless. I went into the Synch4 console to try and cycle Bluetooth to get it to reconnect with my phone, the Bluetooth control froze when trying to turn Bluetooth off. I had to cycle the power on the car to clear the freeze, and then Bluetooth came back "on" and still won't allow CarPlay to engage wirelessly.

No joy whatsoever with wireless CarPlay for me at the moment, only wired. I've seen flakiness in the past, but usually it resolves itself with one or two power cycles on the car. I haven't yet tried rebooting the Synch4 system yet, but I'll try that later today.

Hi Bob. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.
