First off, sorry...I'm an engineer who can't leave good enough alone.

I like the BSKT rear pony turning white when in reverse, but it completely wipes out my rear camera view at night. I've tried taping over part of the camera as suggested in another thread, but no luck. So I wired in a relay to inhibit the pony backup light when the taillights are on.

Cheap relay from Amazon:

Triggered by the red wire on the pony harness, the pony white wire is NC and opens when the relay is powered. Pretty simple and works great!

Relay white tapped into pony red
Relay black tapped into pony black
Cut the pony white wire
Relay blue to white wire to car reverse light
Relay yellow to white wire to pony
Cap the relay red wire and tuck everything up behind the plastic cover.
You’re an engineer who can't leave good enough alone - is THAT really your wiring ?

What a rat’s nest of potential failure points, and those amateurish connectors?

I installed the EV-Vida front & rear ponies and the grey wire that should be connected to the reverse light harness I spliced in, soldered and heat shrink wrapped & tied all the wiring nice and secure.

Speaking of BSKT Design, does anyone know what ever happened to the non-GT grill with led pony? I put down a deposit for the opportunity to purchase one (only $10, but it guaranteed their best pricing - about $200 off their current advertised pricing) in January. I've emailed BSKT for status information and received no response. I know there was a manufacturing disruption due to natural disaster, and the BSKT website has has production photos, but no word to those of us who put down a deposit. Has anyone here have additional information? Thanks!
Buy from EV-Vida??‍♂

Judging by NEW2EV’s wiring solution, EV-Vida’s install is a lot simpler though instead of their suggested routing of the cable up though bootfloor, I routed up where rear light wiring passed up corner of bumper and out past rear light.

EV Vida’s don’t seem to wipe out rear cam view either?

You are right because it is less than half the brightness of the BSKT rear pony in reverse. Most everyone that installs the BSKT rear pony leaves the backup wire disconnected so the Pony stays soft red instead of changing to the intense white light.

Ah, interesting.

You learn so much here?

Luckily I bought EV-Vida’s before discovering this little wrinkle, I only wired the reverse light feature in last night, took longer the way I opted to do that part of the install, looks bloody stunning, though………

That is my wiring open just after testing so I could take a picture of it and explain the mod. If I'd taken a picture of it after solder, heat shrink, wrapped and ties, you wouldn't be able to see anything. ?

All very well rolling your eyes as if were obvious.

It was not.

You didn’t clearly state this from the outset and, in fact, wrote: “I wired in a relay to inhibit the pony backup light when the taillights are on.” producing your picture as an illustration of this.

A lot of people come here to for knowledge & advice.

When they see an engineer who says he doesn’t even do “good enough” they are likely to follow his/her example and advice.

Without a proper explanation that the picture was a temporary mock up for illustrative purposes, people less qualified looking to the likes of us as experts for good advice & guidance are left misled by this sort of thing thinking it was complete and good in all respects.

So, explanation was lacking.

As somebody who’s been a vehicle fire investigator I feel qualified in saying that people should know the risks of using this kind of connector, and so many, as you illustrate.

As the clamping force of connectors of this kind, or others crimped rather than soldered, on conducive cores of the wiring relax as they might over time, or oxidation of their conductive cores bared by the connectors occurs, the risk of resistance there materialises, with resistance comes heat (look up resistance heating) with the potential consequent effect of fire exposing vehicle occupants, other road users and others nearby to the risk of property damage, injury or even death!

Installed front and rear ponies this weekend. The only issue was the rear light wouldn't sit flat. There was excess glue around one of the mount legs. I trimmed the glue back and that fixed it.
Otherwise all installed fine and work great! Thanks @markboris for being the point man on these.
I experienced the exact same issue using the same fix, you’d thing they’d sufficiently test the product?

The issue with the rear ponies not sitting flat no matter who makes them is the back liftgate in that area is NOT flat. It has a slight curve to it and all the ponies are completely flat. So what I do when I install them is heat up the pony just a bit and slightly bend down both sides so the center has a slight bow up then it will sit flat on the liftgate.

And how did I figure this out? I don't have a pony in the back of my Mach-E's. I have a Ford oval and had to fit it to the liftgate by warping it slightly.

Wish I could. This not for a lighted emblem alone but for a grill (non-gt) including light. Some of us pre-ordered (just a small deposit) 6 months ago and have not heard a word. See link for the product. https://bsktdesign.com/products/non-gt-real-grill
