Parked in my garage last night, everything was normal. It was charged around 50% or so. This morning the car won't open (the door button's don't light up). When I plug the garage charger in, no charge port lights turn on so it looks like it is not charging. App on my iphone says 'Vehicle in Battery Saver Mode'.

Out of ideas what I can try. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try to jump it to open the frunk so you can access the battery? If not, you might review the manual that explains how to do it.

Found how to open the frunk - thanks. But even if I do that and jump it.... Why would it not charge from the garage charger? Does this mean some kind of electrical failure?

Your car has a 12v battery, just like ICE vehicles. Sounds like it is probably dead and needs replaced.

Thanks! Decided to have it towed to a dealer nearby via Ford roadside assistance.

The process of initiating charging requires power. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you cannot charge the car.

To charge the vehicle needs to sense it is attached to an EVSE, tell the EVSE what it can take, open the contacts in a relay to allow power into the high voltage battery, and activate the AC-DC charger, none of which the car’s computers can do without power from the 12V low voltage battery. The car is effectively a metal lump with a dead 12V even on an EVSE. (People commonly call them chargers but the charger is actually in the car, the EVSE is really more like a smart switch.)

It would be really nice to know if the lithium ion jump start batteries sold for ICE cars, in boost mode, have enough power for long enough to get the computer up enough to initiate charging.

I mean, towed to a dealer.... DEALERS, right???

Realizing of course that these battery packs are different. I guess one would want to know the Wh required.

I have to assume peak amps can be delivered because it'll crank an ICE car battery, although I'm sure the reality is a form of battery-time-curve....

Given I have a 23, it should be at least another year before I have the chance to find out....

I opened a completely dead (HVB & LVB) Tesla with its jump wires inside the tow eye, then connected a jump pack (not a boost starter) to its 12V batt and opened its doors, got the HVB to charge, got screen to light up and virtually work as normal with jump pack connected.

Never tried it on the MME yet but I expect it should work same way.

12V is 12V and if it is possible to connect a 12V source like jump starting an ICE then surely this should work, not tested the theory on MME myself.

When the battery died on my boat I was able to use a jump pack to get me back to my dock Have not had to use it on my MME yet. Changed the 12 v battery at 49 months

That’s actually a good question, I’d love to know what the power on current requirements are for the Mach E to get as far as turning the DC-DC converter on, and the boot load time. I’d imagine if it’s not documented somewhere somebody somewhere has tested the boot power load. The packs are often vague about their totally capacity, but like you, I bet if they’re able to provide 1000-2000A for a few seconds it’s actually a fairly decent sized battery in those packs. Mine appears to claim a 2.1Ah capacity.
