Periodically when Apple car play launches wirelessly and I try the voice to talk button, I do not get the normal “bong” sound. When I nonetheless start to call someone there is no sound and the call does not work. Same with messages. The car radio still works. I have been able to solve the problem by pulling off the road and shutting down and restarting the car. But tonight I tried several times to restart the car when the problem began but no joy. I am using an iPhone 16 Pro and running the latest iOS (not a beta). Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, solved the issue?

Instead off shutting down the car, you can reboot the Sync system. I have recurrent issues with Car Play not playing any streaming music and rebooting usually fixes it--usually. Good luck.

The Siri bong sound was removed by Apple an update or two ago. It just puts Siri into listen mode. The other issues can probably be resolved via a sync reset as @Flint302 said : hold the volume button down and next track button pressed simultaneously until the large screen goes dark.

Usually, rebooting Sync works (hold down volume and skip track buttons on the steering wheel for 10 seconds). I seem to be getting the no audio when connected to CarPlay bug more frequently lately. Rebooting my phone helped, but did not completely eliminate the bug.

I’ve also had this happen where I get no audio playback in car play. The fastest fix I have found is to disconnect and reconnect car play though the phone tab of the sync menu. In that menu, When you see your phone connections (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.), there should be a CarPlay button. Hit it once to disconnect and hit it again and it will connect back up usually very quickly. It’s faster than restarting the entire sync/screen and then waiting for CarPlay to connect again.

I have found it seems to happen most often when I switch the car to drive immediately after starting. If I wait a little bit, i don’t seem have the problem. Someone with a Bronco was told me this and seems to apply to Mach-e as well.

This is correct. Every word.

There is also a scenario where the car audio gets turned off. Not sure what does this but someone earlier suggested it happens only when you start backing up and CarPlay is initializing. I don’t use the built in, ford sync, Sirius app but if you leave it in the most recent list and the audio is turned off it will tell you It is off.

my check list
1) check the power on state for the audio
2) still not working use the phone list car play toggle scenario above.

When this happens, I usually switch to regular radio for like 3 minutes... Then switch back to CarPlay and it seems to work then.

Interesting. My Siri bong has never left. I get it on my phone and in the car (just checked to make sure I wasn't imagining it). Both car and phone software up to date.

I can confirm all the replies from the group are valid and can work to resolve the issue. My wife says the fastest way is to power cycle the car including opening the door. She has it done in under 30 seconds. Waiting for a few minutes before putting in Drive or Reverse has worked for me as well but I'm often in a hurry and don't want to wait. I have noticed since the last iPhone Beta update 18.3 (22D60) it has happened less often over the past few days.

It might be a setting Mark. I read about it an update or so ago. TBH I don’t pay much attention to the CarPlay workings and up decision making at Apple. I mean it took m ages to realize Siri doesn’t say yes very often any more and uses uh-huh etc.

This happens occasionally to me. I go to the phone list, turn off CarPlay for my phone, turn it back on and it's fine.

Thank you all for your replies - but of course, once I tried again, the problem was fixed without doing anything. I suspect it will occur again, and I will keep all of your suggestions in mind. The real issues are: why is this happening, and why has this not been fixed? Is this on Apple's side or Ford's side - and would there just be finger pointing and no resolution if we complained directly? Frustrating.

Thanks again.

My wife got the carplay no-volume silence bug the other day when I wasn't with her, and she was furious. She couldn't hear me on the phone, either. So by text message I told her to try rebooting sync by pressing ffwd and volume down simultaneously for 10 seconds, but she was pushing the volume button *in* rather than *down*. So, she had to drive home with no music. When she got home I had to show her how to do it (sorry, dear, I meant *downwards* not *down*) and then be extra nice to her for an hour or more before she calmed down.

It makes me realize how tolerant I am of all the little tech glitches, and how important it is for me to solve them. If my wife wasn't married to me and bought the car herself, she might be starting to think about selling the car, especially after one bad supercharging experience.
