Based on how owners are charging on the go, we are enhancing the FordPass app experience and turning off the in-vehicle Charge Assist/Public Charging app starting today.


How you can find, activate, and pay for a charger.


· FordPass App – your FordPass app is the easiest and quickest way to locate, activate and pay for charging at all 14 BlueOval Charge Network partner networks.

o Activate the BlueOval Charge Network

· Plug & Charge – Just plug in at Tesla Supercharger (adapter needed) and Electrify America charging stations and charging will begin automatically, using your BlueOval Charge Network account for payment.

· In Vehicle – Through the in-vehicle screen, you can continue to enter your trip details and route to a charger using Connected Navigation. You can also use Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay and Google Maps EV Routing for Android Auto.

If you have a BlueOval Charge Network account and open the in-vehicle Public Charging app you will see:

What the… but why? It seems like a tedious and bad system. I want to find chargers and navigate to them quickly (given up preconditioning as that is too complicate for Ford). And why can’t CarPlay and Google Maps be mentioned as a combo?

What are the enhancements to our @Ford Motor Company FordPass app experience?

Will we be able to access FordPass charge station options through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, for example?

Why is this in-vehicle option being removed prior to updating the in-vehicle navigation app database?

Removing the Public Charging app from the in-car screen without first adding the Tesla Supercharger Network to the Navigation system is an extremely short-sighted and bone-headed move if you ask me.
Thank you for being the best part of the Ford Family. (lol)

Please excuse my rant here, but I can’t let this just slide by. After all, what should an 81 year-old do that holds , in Fords some drag racing titles and has restored multiple Fords to show quality and now has a Tesla and a Mach E in his garage. He rants when he sees some of us get out of line. The power of a keyboard is overwhelming to some of us.

To our friends @Ford Motor Company i wish to apologize for some of our rude friends. They are your customers And typically contribute to this form in a positive way.

thank you for the improvements that been made to the OTA system. I am a benefactor of that as I am in my 38th month of a 2022 premium ER AWD with current software. Best car ever driven by this dude.

As IT guy in the mid 60s writing code, I understand, not in detail understand the complexity of your challenges. Thank you again for what you’ve given us.

To my fellow MME owners, please respect the maker of our ride with your comments.

So, I decided to get in the car and goof around with the public charging and Ford navi apps. I mocked up a trip from northern VA to the south hills of Pittsburgh. The Ford app did give me the choice of the turnpike or I 68. I selected 68.

Then I went to the public charging app and wound up with the screen shown in Mark’s message above. After some fiddling I was able to get the new layout to show me the Tesla SC located in Cumberland MD. It gave me the option of adding it as a waypoint in the Ford navi trip.

It seems cumbersome to me and I wouldn’t want to do it on the fly, solo, if the new iteration even works while the vehicle is in motion. It does seem to work, but obviously it’s not as convenient as having the SC sites pop up in navi and it doesn’t have pre conditioning built in.

Preconditioning? I have seen it plenty of times via my Car Scanner Pro app and OBD2 reader.

If this was in place on my longest road trip, I would have been stranded.

I got to a site, and my phone was in a weird state that I was not immediately able to resolve, but I was able to initiate charging with the In-Vehicle Public Charging app.

I guess I better hope I never need that again.

Plug Share and ABRP are both available on Android Auto and CarPlay iirc, although if your phone is in limboland, that won't be a bunch of help. :(
