I always close the port while I'm still holding the cable... I'm already there... I just thought everyone did it that way ?
That's what I do now. I also now park on the other side of the garage lol.

I'll do it that way now!! But I can't park on the other side of the garage, my truck just barely fits on that side and won't on the MME's side.

I ordered the BMW part. I also noticed that my RAM truck has the same part.

Just did the same, while reversing the charge door stuck to garage door and broke the hinge mechanism. Now need to replace the entire part, found a tutorial but it says to unclip 4 clips and doesnt explain how. Anyone replace the part itself that could share how to unclip the big part out?

Would you please post a pic of the clips you are talking about? Just so I don't get confused and try to help with something I didn't have to mess with........

Good afternoon, these clips circled in white.

Exactly. And snarky texts are very unlikely to help solve the problem for someone who made a mistake. Thanks for pointing out the myriad of reasons one might miss the warning......

Thank you.

Oh. I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you. Busy week. Sorry to say I didn't have to muck with those clips. I got lucky and the little springy door lock on the upper right is all I had to replace, along with putting some epoxy on the clip holding the actual metal door to the hinge, just to be sure it stayed put. Best of luck!!

Rhmj1982 I just removed the charge door assembly, or "pocket" as Ford calls the part (LJ8Z-10370-B). Unfortunately the charge door on my 2 week old 2024 Mach E had the same meeting with a garage door frame as yours.

I first tried to access the clips referenced in pictures above from the frunk after removing the centre and left covers. Was not able to reach or figure out the clips from inside.

I ended up drilling small holes through the 4 indentations in the door assembly from outside. Then I inserted small screwdrivers through the holes and gently released the clips by pushing the clips away from the fender to release the clips from the fender. NOTE, be careful to drill through only the plastic door assembly and NOT into the components behind. NOTE, don't use this process if you want to reuse the door assembly as it will be ruined. Mine is already toast, so I have nothing to lose.

Once all four clips are released, the assembly can be pulled away from the vehicle and out. There is one wiring harness and a LED that have to be removed from the assembly before it can be completely removed.

Drill four small holes through the recesses to access the clips. In this picture the bottom left was damaged and pulled away. Note the clip in the large circle.

Insert screwdriver through hole.

Use screwdriver to push tab away from fender to release the assembly. You'll likely need a helper to release all four tabs at the same time.

I'm expecting installation of the new part to be straight forward, but I haven't received it yet so who knows?
