Charge station not detected DC charge error

Has anyone experienced this error when DC fast charging?

I tried a caltrans charger and 4 EA chargers and the car said on the instrument cluster charge station not detected.

I turned off plug and charge in the app and still got the same error. Almost got stranded. Weird because I was able to DC charge at another EA charger an hour earlier.

My confidence is shaken. Usually I can get one charger to work but 300 miles from home and this freaks me out. Meanwhile I saw a lot of Teslas at the superchargers come and go. But the tesla didn't work for me so I chose to take this risk instead.

If anyone has any tips that would be great. Decided to give car a break, will charge tomorrow. Still have 10% so should be good to find a level 2 charger and try DC chargers again.

EA chargers have a tel number to call, they can do a reset or help debugging the problem.

Your OBCC module might need a software update from the dealer if you have an early build? Have you used DC fast charging successfully before?

I assume you tried unplugging/replugging/wiggling the charging connector with no luck.

Sometimes EA stations just suck and it's not your car. You should call them if you have an issue and see if they can reboot the chargers before giving up and leaving.

I was on the phone with them for 30 minutes.

I have DC fast charged before, same day an hour ago.

I have a power train fault that says service vehicle soon and power reduced but it doesn't affect anything.

I have about 80kw left of the 250 from fordpass. I was about a 20 minute drive from going to zero so this experience was eye opening.

I am probably going to rent a gas car when I take my parents on this road trip, I can't take this risk of being stuck. I'm younger and it's fine but they have health issues and I have to be able to transport and care for them.

I'm at 7 percent , had to use 3 percent driving around to find a charger. Found a chargepoint level 2 charger but it's all full. I'll try again tomorrow.

I got the car in May. I'm so torn because aside from the buzzing I love the car but I don't know if I will tolerate this. Usually at an EA station the third or fourth connector works I've never had 8 attempts over 30 minutes not work, and then drive to another DC charger only for it to also not work.


I've turned ford plug and charge off. If I can charge to 100 I will and I will drive 60 for 300 miles, and find a way to make it home. I have the AWD extended range so it's a stretch but I'll turn off ac in 110 heat to get back home and then sort this out.

So you’re driving around in a car that’s telling you it has a serious problem, all the while wondering why you’re having serious problems?

Yeah if you have a powertrain fault going on that is likely something to do with it not letting you DCFC. Even if it let you DCFC with the fault current, it may not now based on what it thinks is going on.

When I first bought the car I had to unplug and re plug at an EA charger, however now plug and charge works perfectly the first time every time. Go to the dealer, have them fix what’s wrong, update all of the related modules (OBCC for one), and try again.

I shouldn't have trusted ford to get this right. One reason I kept driving is I didnt think they were going to give me a loaner while waiting for an appointment. In hindsight maybe the right thing to do was pay out of pocket to rent a car, but it seems outrageous to have to do that.

I'm new at being an early adopter, I'm not going to get all the things right but I'm learning as I go!

Understandable - the message you're getting has been reported by people with all sorts of problems, many related to LV battery issues. And it seems that the LV battery issues can wreak havoc with almost any module on the car. I hope you can get it sorted out soon.

My appointment is next Monday to see what the fault is.

Had to use a level 2 charger and kept going to the first EA charger that worked on this trip.

Thankfully it worked again.

In summary, I went to 3 different EA chargers and only one worked. Calls with support did not help.

I also went to a cal trans charger that didn't work that was 50kw. No problems with chargepoint level 2 chargers.

It's unfortunate that we almost got stranded. I'm thankful though for the level 2 chargers even though they were slow.

I'm most likely not going to take this trip again as the one EA charger that charged my car is about 200 miles away from the destination. With AC on and 105 degree heat and elevation changes it's too close to work with.

It was a good experience though to always make backup plans and not to assume that every charger along the way is actually going to work.

I'll update next week with whatever the dealer says is causing the power train fault.
