Battery isn't warmed when unplugged. Cabin is.

"departure time" has a specific toggle that says whether or not to do it when it is not plugged in. what position is that toggle in?

also OP admitted in one of the posts that his first 2 miles is uphill. depending on how steep this is completely feasible. i drove uphill for 2 miles once and it used up 10% of my battery. it gave back around 8% on the way down, i.e. it was just 2% net which is actually not that far from what you would expect for 4 miles on flat ground frankly.

Not according to what I read in my manual. Unless I'm not reading it right.

"Setting departure times allows you to control charging schedules and warm or cool your cabin and the high voltage battery WHEN your vehicle is plugged in,..."
Yeah, Rick was rightly careful to specify Cabin. The departure time does still pre-warm (or cool) the cabin even if not plugged in, and the resistive heater can consume a good amount of energy when first starting up especially.

I believe the battery preconditioning itself only happens when plugged in (unless otherwise specified).

I did not see any toggle that allows the cabin to pre-warm/cool when unplugged. I had to go out and check. Didn't grab a photo, but pretty sure it says it only will condition the cabin when plugged in. Is that new for 2023 or maybe a software update?

Setting a departure time ALWAYS cools or warms the cabin, whether the vehicle is plugged in or not. It has been this way since the Mach-E came out.

There is a toggle, that shows up once a departure time is set, "Pre-condition cabin when unplugged". If you set a departure time, it will shows as on.

Underneath it says "Note: Remote starting when your vehicle is unplugged may deplete your battery". While it says "remote starting", it is on the departure time page and refers to a departure time draining the battery just like a remote start does, when the vehicle is unplugged.

I see no toggle with no departure time set. If I set one, then on the screen after I save it it shows up.

You should note that the purpose of the switch, which has never worked, is to be able to set a departure time, toggle it off, and have the battery precondition but the cabin not precondition, while unplugged.

People have watched, via OBD adapters and Car Scanner, and verified that unplugged the battery is not warmed with a departure time.

On a side note. I haven't been able to do crap on the Fordpass app with just getting Fordpass is unavailable any time I try to set a charging schedule or departure time. I just got notification of the 4.2.1 update and had hoped that would help. Is there anything to help with the app?

If it warmed the cabin, that uses more energy than cooling. Hence the 89%.
My 90% charged vehicle usually shows 89% by the time I walk over to my car at the end of work, and I have no departure time/precondition/anything turned on.

Remember, since Ford only displays whole numbers, there’s some point where a minuscule change in SoC flips the digit.

My FordPass won’t work for crap for days to set charging. I have to do it in car. And I don’t see any option there to condition while unplugged.

Well shoot. I uninstalled and reinstalled and got the app working. Turns out it is an option in the app. Can’t find it on the car menu. But it’s turned off.

Yeah that toggle defeats the entire purpose of departure times, which is meant to condition the cabin for you. So I can understand why the toggle won't work. It's some left over code someone forgot about in FP. Which you'll learn doesn't actually work to schedule anything through. But does work as a remote fob.

Well it happened again. I had the car plugged in last night and charged it to 90%. I got in this morning, started it up. Immediately dropped to 89% and within 2 miles it dropped to 85%. Energy use showed 8% climate and 92% driving. So doesn't seem like battery conditioning used up a whole lot. Accessories showed 0% and Exterior Temp showed 0%.
