Actually, that picture is a 10-30, which is an older 3-prong dryer outlet.
Right, all he needed to do was replace the $10 outlet. But, it looks like he's just going to do it right and replace the whole circuit

I have a picture of the Mach E 240v outlet.

yes, that is a 14-50 plug. He was saying your existing 30A outlet is not a 14-30 but is actually a 10-30

Yes, I understand. Sorry for the confusion. I was told I could use the 30amp with a 14-50 plug. After watching a few videos and looking through the Mach E forum, that might not be the best option.

Oh, one more tip:

Be sure to mount the charger at least 75" higher than the receptacle on the car to help the formbates flow more freely past the marcel vanes in the stater.

And remember to place the step ladder on a level, firm surface to avoid personal injury.

Awesome. Thank you! Am I missing something with the attached photo. It says 240v 30amp with a NEMA 14-50 wall outlet.

As others have pointed out, the Ford Mobile Charger comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug, so it needs to go into a NEMA 14-50 outlet. A NEMA 14-50 outlet needs to have wire rated for 50 A. That doesn't mean that what plugs into it needs to pull the max current. The Ford Mobile Charger only pulls 32 A. So you need a NEMA 14-50 outlet to physically plug it in, but it will only pull 32 A.

You cannot use an adapter to plug it into a dryer outlet because that's only rated to 30 A, so plugging it in with a physical adapter will result in the Ford Mobile Charger pulling 32 A and tripping the breaker. You can use the dryer outlet, but then you need a different EVSE that only pulls 24 A (80% of max rating of 30 A).

Okay. I understand. Thanks everyone.

Actually, code allows you to put a NEMA 14-50 on a 40A circuit (40A breaker and wire rated for 40A such as #8-3 romex). 30A is not allowed for a 14-50, however.

Only on a technicality because there are no 40 A receptacles and certainly not good practice, so I would never recommend it. If you're installing an outlet rated for 50 A it should be supplied with 50 A wire. What happens if someone who's expecting it to be 50 A uses it as such?

It is allowed by electrical code, and actually fairly common. Label the outlet as I did.

No, a bad option. It'll blow your breaker every time you charge. You'll be putting a 32A load on a 30A circuit.

Me thinks there be something else in your blood.
