I have had my MME about three weeks now, always changing in the garage. Later this week I am taking a trip from north Georgia to Central Florida. Here in the SE we get lots of downpours and thunderstorms, and next week it looks like Florida could be affected by tropical weather. So my question is, is it safe to charge when it is raining. On the trip down I will have 2 DCFC stops, if it happens to be raining what is the procedure for charging? In Florida I will be charging L2 but outside at the house. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. I have not read anything anywhere about charging in the rain.

Yes charging in the rain (snow, sleet, etc. I've done it all) is safe.

Rain is OK. If there are lightning events nearby, probably best to unplug until they have stopped for 15 or so minutes. ??

Our first DC charge, it was pouring rain! It's best to learn how to do this when it's not pouring rain!

The biggest issues with DC fast charging in the rain is none of the stations around Florida have canopies over them, so YOU will get soaked, but the car will be fine. It's really really stupid that they don't have any sort of cover.

I'm charging in the rain
Just charging in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just chargin',
Chargin' in the rain

Solar canopies would make the most sense.

Make sure the outlet side of either your L1 or L2 is properly covered with an outdoor outlet cover. Otherwise, the car side of the connection is fine in the rain. Even the ford mobile charger body can be exposed to rain while charging.

FWIW, you made me look, but Florida seems in the clear as far as tropical storms go this week. Nothing heading our way.

Invest 91 staying way off in the Atlantic:

But yes, it does rain almost every afternoon in the summer depending on where you are in Florida.

Same here. I think EA and others are saving a few hundred dollars per station by not installing anything protecting you from heat and rain. The funny thing all gas stations have some kind of a roof while it takes only a few minutes to fuel.

Seems like a no brainer for equipment that is affected by heat
