Hi all,

im wondering if anyone is able to help or has had a similar issue. I recently purchased a 2022 Extended Range MME from Carsa and have been having issues charging it.

I can’t seem to charge it at any speed below 22kw. It flashes blue for a few seconds and then starts continually flashing amber. See the tests we have done below.

We know this isn’t an issue with the home charger as my partner has a hybrid Kuga and charges with no issues.

7kw home charger - won’t charge
3kw 3pin Ford charger - won’t charge
7kw public charger - won’t charge
22kw public charger - charges
50kw public charger - charges

it has an outstanding recall for the 12v battery and the health of this battery is at 22% so is being replaced. Does anyone know if this could relate to why it will only fast charge?

AC charging and DC charging utilize independent systems in the car. It’s not unusual for a failure of one to not affect the other. You need to have a look at the trouble codes in order to aid the diagnosis.

Maybe the type 2 cable is 11kW coded. I had an isseu having an 11kW kable in a public 22 kW charger. That will not work if the charger does nit exepts 11kW coded cables. Maybe its the same just otherway around.

Thank you for this. As a bit of a novice, how do I see the trouble codes? Or is this something I would need to take to a garage?

If it's still under warranty, I would take it to a dealer.

In the U.S., all cars use the OBDII protocol and we can buy a diagnostic tool that plugs in to read the codes. I’ll let someone on your side of the pond comment on your specific options. This forum has several knowledgeable members in the UK.

Sounds like the on-board AC charger has failed. DC charging will still work. The charger should be covered by the high voltage warranty.
Thank you, I will reach out to Ford and see if they can have a look at it

Before you take a trip to the dealer, you may want to do a 12v reset if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. On rare occasions, the onboard charger can get hung and disconnecting the 12v battery and reconnecting it a few minutes later may reset it.

If there is something physically wrong, it could be as simple as a switch in the charge port door, up to a full failure of the onboard charger.

An OBD2 reader can give you the error codes so you have a better idea of where the problem is.

VGATE VLinker MC+ paired with CarScanner with the Ford EV specific profile works well for me for reading both my MME and my Lightning. This combination also lets you display on the big screen through CarPlay or Android Auto.

You anywhere Nottm? You could use my diag tool to read your codes and run a test on my home charger & lead to help with process of elimination.

Thanks for everyone’s responses. The dealership I bought the car from advised that the pins used for AC charging weren’t sending a signal. It needs the charging port replaced which is apparently quite a costly job

I think the charge port should be covered under the 8-year warranty because it is part of the high-voltage traction system AND the onboard charger, which are both covered. You should push the dealer if they say otherwise or reach out to the EV team and see if they can go to bat for you...... unless of course, the issue is caused by rodent damage or other damage.
