The charger puts you and an open charger door and the cord in harm's way when parked at the curb on the street.

Eventually, plenty of owners will be parking at the curb while plugged in. Why put the charger on the left side of the car?

Where do you charge parked at the curb?

I have seen some people complaining that the front left charge-port opening to the front sometimes gets in the way of the DC charging cables, but to me it makes sense to have it driver side up-front to make it easier to plug when I get into the driveway

Every charger location I have seen has either been perpendicular or angle parking in relation to the street or lane of traffic with one exception. The exception is a library where the traffic is one way and the charger is on the left side of traffic, making it on the same side as the charge port on my Fusion Energi (and same as on the MME). While it is quite possible there are chargers designed on the right side of a parallel park, I am not sure there is much concern here. The vast majority of chargers I have seen are not parallel. ?‍♂?

Interesting point, but I don't know if we will ever have mass curbside L2 charging. At least, it seems a very tiny percentage of commercial L2 chargers are on the side of the road, as opposed to in a parking stall of some kind.

Ironically, the only one I recall seeing in LA was on the left side of a one way street in DTLA.

Well, I would have liked it to open like a Countach door (pop out, pitch forward). Oh, wait, my Fusion’s charge door opens like that! ??

I like it on the left side. Otherwise I have to walk around to the other side of the car to connect and disconnect. It would be cool if they had put a charging port on both sides of the car, but if only on one side, I vote for the left. And that is the one and only time I will vote for the left. Ever. Just sayin.

Curb side charge units are not very common in North America.

The charge point location is in part for convenience and in part because that spot is among the least likely places to suffer collision damage.

I think most EVs have their charge ports on the drivers side. That way drive can easily plug and unplug without having to walk around the car.

To your point, I tried a curbside charger this past summer and it worked fine.

Yeah, running that 100’ cord across a sidewalk.. like.. Nope. Beside who has a 240V outlet at the front door?

This actually works best for us as we park in the garage squeezed up against the wall. Right sided charging would require us to back into the garage.

They should put two charging ports, one on each side like the Taycan.

When I owned the Taycan I used to charge mostly on the passenger side because that was more reachable on the public chargers I used. I used the driver side port very few times. So the OP has a point.
