Hello,

Ive had the car for about a month and even at the 300W or 180W superchargers my fastest charge speed is 80KWS. This is going from 40% charge to 65% charge so its not topping off the battery.

Ford is saying that the higher speed of charging will come after the battery calibrates. Is this happening for those who had had the car longer? Does the average speed pickup after driving for 500 miles?

Thanks
The 80kW speed sounds like a 200 amp cable limit. If i remember the shell stations are the ABB Terra 184 with can either be optioned with a 200 or 400 amp cable. 400v * 200A = 80kW. Also try plugging in at 10%. You will charge much faster

I have a post about this also. I’m charging at 55kwh and the car next to me is at 120.

Yes I have been using the tesla and ea membership plans in the past. I have discontinued the ea because I tend to use Tesla when possible. I have calculated that if I use the Tesla supercharger more than 2 times a month the membership is paid for itself. I wish there was a way ford and tesla could talk to see who had a membership so I could use plug and charge and receive my membership discount. Maybe Ford could work with all their partners and have a subscription plug and charge but you received a discount at all the partners Tesla, EA and any other plug and charge.

I live in a high rise building in Chicago so there's no personal charger. There's one in the garage I live in but its a 4 hour max park.

The best options for me are to charge at work and the Shell gas station that has a 180W. The work garage is slower but its free for 4 hours. The Shell station is about $12 for 25% of battery which isnt too bad, but id like to get the speed up past 80KWS so you dont have to wait as long. The BMW next to me was clocking 150KWS at the same charger
I'm sorry.

The car ain’t gonna charge faster “after it calibrates.” That’s just typical nonsense from Ford.

80kW is a pretty normal sustained charging speed. I’ve seen my charging speed spike into the 120s for short durations, but never for more than a few minutes.

The Mach E just doesn’t DCFC very fast. It’s getting pretty outdated on that point.

80 kW is too slow at 40% SOC. IIRC the car can do nearly max charging rate (~170 kW) at that SOC and should still be up around 97 kW past 65%.

mine never goes past 60. It’s a joke compared to the cars around me.

No, it's not. And it's due to the Shell charger as was stated earlier.

To properly test charging speed, do the following:

1) Go down to 20% or so.
2) Set the charger as a destination in the navigation, ensuring instead of a flag, you see a symbol of a charger, and that the charger is within 18.6 (30km) miles.
3) Use an EA charger, or a Tesla Supercharger, or other charger that is not a shared charger.

You should see speeds of close to 150kW at first, settling into the 120s, then falling.
One of the requirements for this is a battery temperature in the 80f or warmer. Since the Mach E doesn't display this information in the center screen many owners are not aware of such.

How can this be found?

I do have that of course. Was just wondering if there was something that can be plugged in and checked on my phone.
Umm... Car Scanner is on your phone and the adapter is plugged in...

If you're going to be fast charging regularly, you probably care about how much you're spending. Some networks - Tesla and EA to mention the two main ones - provide a discount with membership. EA's is 25%. $7.00 a month. You can join the morning of a trip, and then immediately downgrade, and it takes effect in 30 days.

In your case, regular use of fast chargers is going to add up. Do the math. Look at the nearest EA that is part of their network pricing (see previous posts in this thread). Now, take that price and figure out what the 25% discount is worth. Then figure out how many kWhs you are using in a month, and do the math. Is it worth driving to an EA that is part of their pricing, pay the $7 membership?

Note that if it is, you MUST use the EA app to activate the charger before plugging in. Ford does NOT provide any discount at any chargers. You also may want to turn off Plug and Charge if you're going to do this, because a failed EA session may revert to Ford Plug and Charge and now no discount.
That is true, I started a spreadsheet to show how much $ is charged per KW and also how long it takes.

Luckily I have 4 free hours of charging at my work building where I drive in 3 days a week. This concern is just making sure the charging thruput doesnt have any issues. Since I haven't been able to pull more than 80KWH yet, but the car is brand new with only 200 miles so far.

When I called Ford over the weekend they said it should improve after 500 miles but we will see.
