Just got a new 2023 Mach E Premium, it's been great but every time I start it I get eight loud chimes (see attached video). The Ford dealer says that this is normal, but it seems excessive to me. Should I just get used to this? Thanks

That chime is the reminder that you are not buckled in. If you buckle first, that chime should not sound.

I guess it depends if the bell bothers you. I had never noticed it before but I went and gave it a try. I get 4 dings when I start. Not as loud as yours sound.

Buckle your seat belt first and see if it still does it. Yes you’re supposed to buckle your belt first before starting the car.

Seat belt chimes are supposed to get more annoying this year due to updated IIHS guidelines that require them to ding almost continuously until you put your belt on. Looks like Ford may have implemented this for 2023 models.

I tried buckling first and that solved it. Thanks!

This answers the question I was about to ask.

My habit of starting first and buckling second is to give the car a few moments to get its act together. With the ICE car that means warming itself up. With the mach e, there's still a few seconds of putting up the entertainment system, I might as well buckle when it's doing that.

But, sure, you're supposed to buckle your seatbelt before you start the car. Guess I'll start doing that.

In the FWIW department, if you’re going to be backing out of a garage or driveway right off the bay you don’t have to wait for the entertainment system to pop up, the backup cameras will work right away and I’ve had CarPlay connect during my short backing up routine. As I said, fwiw and it's not worth much. ;)

I got into this habit of closing the door and buckling up before starting on my prior vehicle, a 2014 Ford Fiesta. The seemingly 6 kHz chimes on that car were 10x more grating than the comparatively dulcet toned, 16-bit techno-inspired cues of the Mach-E.

I buckle up before I put the car in drive! Just after I press the start button, because on the ICE car it's good to give the whole thing a few secs to come up to speed. The CRV's transmission is a little cranky until it pressurizes.

Grating like this?

Now that's a Fiesta...
