Hello,

Looking for advice on a noise that my dealership is struggling with.
Unfortunately, I cannot get a good video of the noise but I am getting a click/clunk when I press the accelerator and release.
The dealer shop have serviced the brakes and that's not the issue, but they cannot recreate the noise when its in the air so are struggling to pin point it.
My thought is that its something to do with the regen system as the noise appears to not be present after coming to a complete stop in neutral.
looking to see if this sounds familiar to anyone else to try and help the EV mechanic out in narrowing this down.
Thank-you

I had this issue and I believe that they had to tighten the axles back down or something in the drivetrain.

Worn joint(s) in the half shaft(s).
It was a not uncommon problem with some early builds, and I expect this to be normal wear-out item. Much like C-V joints in other cars.
I‘m surprised a dealer can’t figure it out.

I had this. Both sides. They changed the rear wheel bearings and cured it. You can make the noise if you put transmission in park on the level, handbrake off and rock car back & forth - easier doing it by rolling wheel back & forth. Try it on the ground first then you can demonstrate to dealer, if it’s same as my noise was.

I have this problem as well. My '23 GTPE makes a clunking sound at low speeds when starting and stopping. Dealer misdiagnosed it. Said there "was a plastic bag wrapped around the axel", but removing the bag did not resolve the noise (as I expected). I have to take the car back for further examination.

Batteries with a wire to an electric motor then two short shafts to the wheels. Hoping they are not a undue maintenance issue. Others CV joints is a varying stat. Appears some but not many are coming up lame. Read shafts and bearings.

Four motors one to each wheel with no shafts would be interesting. Most likely a better processor required for that.

Was it noticeable on consumption numbers or not really?

Did they test drive it? Maybe tell them you can go with them on their next one.

When you say consumption do you mean range?

Didn’t make a noticeable different on range use nor do I expect it should, not something affecting wheel alignment or drag through drive system.

I had a CV joint start clicking quietly. Probably would not have heard it if the car had an ICE engine for another 30K miles. Warranty fix, just last month. ??

Bumping this thread because my 2024 Mach E is doing the clunking thing. It's coming from under the rear of the car. The first time I heard it, a week or two ago, I just assumed that's what it was, so I was surprised that it kept on making the same sound during the entire drive, and hasn't since cleared up. It's very similar to the characteristic 'surface rust on brakes' noise that you'll often hear the first time a car is driven after not moving for a day, but I'm not convinced that's what it is, especially since I can replicate it while driving.

The OP of this thread posted this video with the sound. It's the exact same sound I'm hearing in my car.
I did see a recall for something similar on 2021s, but this is a 2024 with less than 2000 miles on it.

Yes they test drove it, but because they did not listen to my explanation of the problem, they didn't really understand what the problem is. I subsequently rode with them in the car and they quickly understood the noise I was referring to.

The car goes back to the dealership later this week for further diagnosis.

My dealership's first reation was also that it's break related. They still want to diagnose my MME like it's an ICE vehicle. I think that the problem is more likely drive-train related. I'm taking it back later this week.

Hi there! I can look into your Mach-E's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Mach-E's VIN?

I DM'd this to @Ford Motor Company already, but if anyone else is interested, here's the best audio my phone was able to pick up while sped up and slowed down a few times.
