How hard could it be to program a remote start into the key fob.
3 quick pushes on the unlock button starts the car and runs it for 15 minutes ....... If nobody enters and pushes the start button it shuts off.

But then you won't use the otherwise useless app, that only works if your car hasn't been sitting for more than some number of hours I haven't figured out but means that it doesn't work in the morning when I need it.

Really surprised it didn't have this from the factory as well. On my F150 with a Ford accessory alarm, lock-unlock-lock starts the vehicle.

I’m with @invertedspear on this one. From PAAK to remote start it seems like Ford wants to drive us to using the FordAss app. At least every other FordAss function is recreated on the fob or in the car. Remote start has no alternate to FordAss so at least it’s the one thing the app reliably gets correct.

The whole fob should be simplified. One button is enough, how hard could it be to program a button to count pushes. One push: sound an alarm, two pushes: unlock the doors, three pushes: lock the doors, four pushes: start the car, five pushes: stop the car, six pushes: call roadside assistance, seven pushes: call 911. Easy.

The execution isn’t very good but remember, from the start, the fob was a backup mechanism to operate the vehicle in case you didn’t have your phone with you. The original vision was that people wouldn’t be lugging huge, clunky fobs around anymore. They’d use their phone, which is something they already carry.

Remote start is all I use my phone for with regards to mr vehicles. Much more range than the fob (obviously) so I can start my car from in the store, right after touchdown from a flight, after a movie, etc. way better than the fob and for me it has worked 100% of the time. Never programmed PAAK and do not intend to.

This is not unique to EVs. Ford doesn't provide FOB remote start as a feature, or option, anymore to my knowledge.

Unless something has changed very recently, it's been available on just about every higher trim Ford model with an automatic transmission.

Could be worse. A lot of cars don’t have a start button on the fob anymore, and most brands charge a subscription to use the app.

It was removed from many in 2023 due to supply shortages. Prior it may have been included with specific packages, not base high end trims.

My 2018 Fusion Energi Titanium was app only. App only is the future direction.

If you could use the fob for remote start, then Ford wouldn't be able to charge you a subscription fee to use it in the future.

I prefer the app typically, even though my F-150 has a FOB with remote start, I will use the app or my watch (which honestly is faster than the FOB in terms of ease of access) to start the vehicles since I get better feedback on if it registered. My '21 F-150 FOB has an LED that flashes green if it starts, but you have to be looking at the FOB to see it and I have had it flash green but the truck didn't start, although very, very rarely.

The app though has nearly always worked and when it said it was started it has been.

As long as we are still given a FOB, I would prefer it have the remote start buttons, but I have given over to using PaaK for our MME only, the FOB hasn't moved from my side table except when I took it to get tint since I didn't want to leave my phone with them.

I think I am easier to deal with on this because my watch does remote start and lock/unlock though. As mentioned it's so damn convenient that I prefer it to the FOB. If I didn't have that I think the FOB would slightly edge out a phone app.

Another way they drive you to the app is by making the fob so damn large. One reason I went with PAAK cause I didn’t want that huge block in my pocket.
