Well looks like Ford doesn't stop sending out the bad OTA. I received that 24-PU0301-BLM-PE just now, but didn't install it.

Just keep a window down when you do the update.
I’m sure that thousands of MME have not had a problem… just a few that have

I thought the timing of lockout is quite random after the update, right? My car parks outside 10 hours a day so I can't leave a window open all the time. Just turned off the auto update?

I took my chances and manually updated 24-PU0301-BLM-PE last night with the car in the garage, instead of letting it install automatically. So far so good.

I've just gotten four in the last 24 hrs. With the first three I made sure I backed into the garage with window down just in case. The second one which I guess is related to blue cruise said car wouldn't be available for fifty minutes.

I've also changed my settings so that installs only update in the middle of the night, reduce the risk of being stranded.

you can leave it on auto update but set your update install schedule to 1 am or thereabouts when you know it's in the garage. It's what I've done. You don't have to stick to the schedule but it's a good failsafe.

Manually installed 24-PU0301-BLM-PE last night, then face-palm this morning ("Why do I even bother reading this forum [if I'm just going to ignore what I read]?" moment").

Ran out to the garage and I was thankfully able to open the doors.

My question, though: Am I out of the woods or just waiting for the other shoe to drop?

Ford.com is showing my 12v SOC at 78%; usually high 80's/low 90's.

Rolling the window down for now.

if it is a pattern, why the heck is @Ford Motor Company still sending out the 'bad' OTA that is responsible ? I would hope they could just re-send a previous version of whatever module is bad and restore access ?

this sure does not inspire any confidence at all in the OTA process.
In 4 model years they havn't figured out how to get the code base all level across the years. I had no problem with this update, but I havn't received much of anything else and am at least ~9 months behind many other 21's as I'm still somewhere around 6.3 since Oct last year. This including the FDRS updates that were applied and didn't push my IPC to 6.8 but I'm 'up to date' and have BC 1.2. Reality is I'm not bad off. My doors open and my speedo is still centered and my BC is kinda better. It's just sadly comical how bad this ball has been dropped for what's coming up on 5 model years now.

Can a Ford Dealership with mobile repair service take care of the problem at your home?

They were suppose to send a mobile repair out, but it kept getting pushed back due to their scheduling issues. I was able to get into the MME the day before they were suppose to come out and take a look.

Does having access to the obd port allow this issue to be cleared? If so, would leaving one of those Bluetooth code readers that can clear codes plugged into the port let you do that? Mine links to my phone and can be accessed with CarScanner from outside the vehicle.

I’d do the window thing except for the fact my garage is wasp city during the summer, and I’d rather not end up with a nest in the car!

I wonder how much of a drain on the lvb those things are when the car is off?

We don't know. The OBDII port would be using one of the CAN buses to communicate with any module, and we don't know which CAN bus (if any) is getting whacked, or if it's just a specific module. It should be possible to reset modules via the ODBII port using Forscan (or FDRS) if they can be communicated with.

However, as far as I know, no one who's experienced the issue has had an OBDII dongle plugged in when they experienced it.

Some of the cheaper wireless ones can drain your 12v battery. Some of the better ones (OBDLink MX+) should be fine.

Well if the dongle kills the 12v battery, then you could pop the frunk with the leads on the front bumper. It’s not much more effort to plug that dongle in when you put the car away for the day, and unplugging it once you’re back in the car, than it is to open and close the window.

I might plug mine in (with the frunk already opened) to see how much it sucks from the 12v overnight.
