I currently drive a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance and my wife drives a 2014 Honda Accord. We are looking to replace my wife's Honda with a new EV. She and I are both very impressed with the Mach E. Our only hesitation is the fact that the Mach E is so new and does not yet have a long track record. I would appreciate it current owners could answer a couple questions:

1) How reliable are Mach E's in general? I know every car has a few bad apples, but are there any objective statistics from reliable sources on how often Mach E's have problems? I am mainly concerned about problems that make the car undriveable and require a tow to the nearest dealership.

2) How helpful is Ford service when it comes to servicing the Mach E? Are there enough mechanics trained in servicing EV's at Ford dealerships?

3) If I did have a problem with my Mach E that required an extended service, does Ford service tend to provide loaner cars?

4) For road trips, what is it like using a DC fast charger with the Ford Mach E?

Thank you for your help,
Joe
I’ve had my MME for a couple of months and had no problems requiring the dealer yet. I did print down the 433 page manual which I refer to often. I have no idea how useful my dealer will be if the MME breaks down.

For ha..ha’s I charged once at an EVGO DC fast charger using the app so I would know how to do it when really necessary. Worked fine but not cheap.

If you want to hedge your bets, consider 36 or 48 month Ford Options financing so you can walk away at final payment.

Love my Mach-E. Super reliable, only once had the center screen black out on me, which was scary, but that lasted for an hour, reset the screen, good to go. 5000 miles in 4 months of ownership. Never drove as much as I do this car, because it's just fun to drive. Haven't needed service, so couldn't speak on that. Road trips aren't as easy as an ICE, but that's the trade off. I pay less than a third what I do in gas, and use pubic charging almost exclusively. Buy one, you won't be disappointed.

I love my MME. No problems so I don't know about support. Sales experience was great. I heavily considered a MY but ended up here for several reasons.

Up to you. If you like options, get the Ford. If you like your cars to be the same, stay with Tesla. There are many owners who have both and I have heard several say they prefer the MME, but who knows.

Good luck.

I ordered my Mach e the night of the first advertisement in November, 2019 and got my Mach e in February, 2021. I love it, just plain love it.
I have about 6,000 miles on it. I have taken a few trips in it to see grandkids who live about 130 miles, one way. I live in Kansas. We still have four seasons here but by the time I got my car, winter was about over.
My car is all wheel drive, extended range, rapid red.
I have not had a problem with my car. I did take it in for tire rotation and learned that at the larger Ford dealers there is at least one technician who has been specially trained in doing ev repair.
I had a plug in Ford Fusion before this car. I loved it and was pleased with its reliability. I didn’t really look to seriously at Tesla. I do not live near a dealership and what “scared” me was the fact that I had read on wrbdites how long many, many people had to wait for car parts if they had an accident, big or small. That is not acceptable to me.
You won’t be sorry if you decide on a Mach e!

Joe, thank you for starting this thread. I have had a Mach E on order since early April and it is being built this week. All these months I have been following threads and had begun to get cold feet due to reliability concerns. The reason I chose the Mach E over the Tesla model Y was the build quality and support structure were better with Ford. Correction to software can be made more reliable with updates but the quality of vehicle is not easily corrected.

This thread has made me more comfortable with my decision.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Yes, the replies have eased my concerns as well. My wife still wants to test drive 3 or 4 different EV's. But I am personally rooting for the Mach E GT with the performance package. The combination of the quick acceleration with the Magneride Damping System sounds incredible. Hopefully she will go for it in Cyber Orange

While my Mach-E is in for its 10K service, etc. I got a rental loaner. Enterprise offered me the Kia Niro EV (which, since I can charge at home, I took). I've only driven it a few miles from there to here, but it's about 80% as good as the Mach-E. If you're used to a econocompact, it's probably pretty nice, but stepping into it from the Mach-E, there's no comparison. It's not just the lower trim level and front-wheel drive (which I cannot stand anymore after driving RWD and AWD for so many years), it's also the fit/finish, software, road feel, etc. YMMV, but I would scratch that off your list if I were you :)

So, I am (or was) in the same boat. I have a 2019 3 Performance, wife has a range. She was interested in an EV and we came on this forum to check out the Mach E. In the end she decided against it because of the limited ground clearance. However since you already own an EV (and you live in California) the transition for you should be no big deal. The handling of the 3P is very aggressive, as you know (mine came lowered) and I have seen repeated complaints on this forum about the Mach E suspension -- on some versions I presume -- being "bouncy" (and I have seen this in review vids). The only other "big deal" is the state of Ford's OTA delivery for the Mach E, which has also generated a lot of complaints on this forum. It's something they are sorting, though.

Thank you for your post. I do prefer a firmer, more sports-oriented suspension. Kyle with Out of Spec Motors posted a recent review of the Mach E GT Performance Edition on Youtube. He points out that the Magnedrive Damping System makes a huge difference. He did recommend that if you go for a GT, it is definitely worth paying extra for the Performance upgrade.

For anyone interested, here is a link to his review:

Other reviewers have said they prefer the regular GT suspension. As for me, a regular GT owner, I would have preferred the Magnaride, but didn't want the summer tires and seats that come with the PE. I find the regular GT suspension is fine except for rare occasions where it feels very SUV or F150-like (without the body roll, it corners flat as Kansas.) It really depends on the road.

What does that consist of as I type this I just thought I could probably just look this up myself but like to hear what your dealer recommended to you? Tire rotation and inspection? Oh God I can only imagine how hard the battery test would be because watching the one video it looked awful to get to it

There is an old saying in the automotive industry. "Quality is built in. Can't be added later." That is one of the many reasons why I chose the Mach-E.

Perfect? No.
Pretty close? Yep. (At least for my needs.)

Wait, you can't add it over the air? ? (*)

(*) "you can't add anything OTA on the Mach-E!"
