I can never get over 40 kw even from a DCFC. Doesn’t seem to matter what the variables; SOC, ambient temp, battery temp, etc….

Any thoughts?
Is this just how it is or should I bring it to the dealership?

What kind of charger is that (ABB or BTC or Tritium)? What are the max amps / volts listed on the charger? Assuming you tried different brands and locations.

Dealer. But unless the dealer has a DC charger they'll say they can't reproduce it.

I'm curious if you're using Plug and Charge? Where the car takes car of the handshake and just starts charging? The 2 times I got P&C to actually work I was stuck at no more than 40kW. Any time I activated the charger before plugging in I ended up in the 100kW range.

Good question. I don’t know much about the chargers yet, but this one was a Petro Canada, I have also used sShell and Flow. (All DC chargers). This particular charger said it had a maximum output of 350 KW.

Anyone else reporting issues on PlugShare at that location? Could be an issue with that location.

If you max out around 40 kW it’s usually a charger problem not a car problem.

Unfortunately, I've noticed a trend with DCFC in Canada, where some charger operators seem less motivated to fix their faster chargers, perhaps because they make more money from slower chargers when they charge by the minute rather than the kWh. I would check Plugshare to see if the chargers you've tested are derated for other cars or not, and see if you can find a truly fast DCFC to twist with.

Looking at the PetroCanada stations on plugshare their stations are 350kw, 200kw, 100kw and a few 50kw max chargers. What is the speed listed on the charger you tried? Have you tried others? Electrify Canada should have some faster chargers.

Yes, this one I’ve stopped at 3 times now is 350 kw. I will try a few more as suggested before going to the dealer. Also, my software is up to date.

There is another screen that shows what the max voltage, amps, and power the DC charger can do, that’s the one you want to pay attention to. If the charger says it can only do 100 amps then you aren’t going to get more than about 40kW out of it.

Yes, but you have to watch those top numbers while DC charging. You’re not connected so they are just default/placeholder values there.
Got it. Ty
