I bought a Momento dash cam. (Don’t; a few days in and so far I’m unimpressed.) It has a parking mode. I asked the installer to wire it to something that would go completely off when the car was off and they didn’t. I’m wondering how much I have to worry about this vis-à-vis the 12 volt battery.

Edit: So far it's woken up frequently to record darkness in my garage in the middle of the night. Unclear on what triggered it.

my understanding is some of the fuses are always on whereas some turn off after [15] minutes, probably did the wrong one?

I'd fully expect to wake up one morning to a bricked car from a dead battery.

That's my expectation as well but I've seen posts here from folks who have dash cams with parking mode and I was hoping to glean something from their experience.

If it keeps waking up in the middle of the night, I'd definitely be worried.

Solution found. The documentation only showed three varying degrees of 'parking mode.' But when I actually looked at it in the app (what a thought.) there's an 'off' option. Done and dusted, I hope.

I haven't connected my parking mode yet (just don't have any energy to do it right now), but in my previous car, I had a parking camera for years without any issues.

The way it works is:
* you connect to an "always-on" fuse, like someone mentioned
* the parking-mode wire has a special circuit on it that monitors your battery voltage. If voltage drops below a certain level, parking-mode is disabled to avoid fully draining your battery. Here's an example wiring kit (https://www.amazon.com/Pruveeo-Hardwire-Protection-Installation-Mini-USB/dp/B0765683WG)

Why are you unimpressed with your dash cam? if you're willing to get a different one, I really like FitCamX. It looks like stock on the car and hardly visible: https://fitcamx.com/collections/for-ford-lincoln/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-ford-mustang-mach-e
