Debating with myself about ordering a MME

My DH has a hard rule of not buying any new model year car. I agree with it completely. Too many bugs to work out on a new/revamped car. I'd keep that in mind while deciding what to do. Also, I love my ‘22 Premium.

I was just at the Orange County Auto Show and I was able to sit in MME, Ioniq, EV6, and bunch of others from more expensive brands. If there is one near you you should definitely try!

My cars already on it's way to the dealership at this point! I don't think the big auto show is happening in Denver this year but I did get to sit in the Mach-e GTPE at a small car show to figure out if I was ok with the seats. It was more the driving part that I was concerned about. Big risk to wait 8 months for a car just to not like it.

Thanks. That’s totally true but with tax credit the MME would still be under $50k. I would say the closest competitor is the Blazer EV. I heard ID4 is a solid EV but not quite as comparable to MME.

You still get the $7500 on all other cars, they all have their issues, the near-perfect EV car is Tesla, people will tell you panel gaps, but that's history, still happens but it's rare.
My buddy's ioniq5 just got a new battery before he got his CA license plate!

Agree, like you said the refundable deposit for MME at least gives a peace of mind.

When you say “all other cars” you mean the ones assembled in North America only? Most foreign cars will no longer be eligible including Frisker Ocean which is a California brand but assembled in Austria.

I guess Tesla already increased their price in the past year which people are used to now. Might feel the same for MME price hike by this time next year.

Well if it was me I'd be looking at a low mileage '22 Premium ER. To me there are too many negatives to even consider buying a '23 at this point. Price increase, potentially lower range due to a battery change, dealers bumping up the cost because of Jim Farley's infrastructure investment demands. Yeah, I think I'll be keeping what I've got thank you.

Yes, I meant the ones assembled in North America, it depends when are you buying, if you make the purchase before the end of this year, all qualify unless passed 200k cars sold, but the ID4 is being built in the US so should also qualify even next year.

Thank you guys! Very encouraging. By chance does anyone think the LFP batteries will make a difference?

I read that Ford plans to use LFP batteries in lower end cars, because they cheaper. They are also less energy dense. So maybe the entry level MME will have LFP batteries, but will also have the lowest range. The more expensive MME will have some other battery technology, one that gives higher energy density.

LFP isn't the answer IMO. Range is sooo important if you want to go anywhere outside your local driving area. But that is just my opinion. There are good use cases for cars with low range. If you live on an island, for example.

I think the EV credits in the Increase Inflation Act require a large component of USA part manufacturing. Will the ID4 qualify? I am not sure we know the answer to that. Just because it is assembled in the USA does not mean it will qualify.

I don’t think anyone knows for sure… NA assembly is the easy part but the battery content/assembly is tricky. I guess we won’t know until people start to claim 2023 tax return in early 2024? Or will the VIN number tell you when you receive the delivery?

Also not sure if the new proposal from Georgia Senator will change the picture..

I wouldn't get the MME if you don't like attention. I get a lot of thumbs up, or people winding down windows to complement the car.
I couldn't believe how reasonable the price of the car was before the price increase. It's still worth the money. It's the nicest looking. Plus, you get all of us on this forum as a bonus!!

Hi everyone, I’m not a MME owner but am considering one. I had no experience in EV and started to look about 4 months ago. After some research, MME Premium RWD SR becomes my choice but unfortunately Ford stopped accepting orders for 2022 model at that time.

As you know when the order bank reopened for 2023 model the particular trim I am interested receive zero upgrade except for a $6800 price increase.

It does hurt, as the price increase basically washes away the entire amount of tax credit… I have not booked one yet, mainly because there will be so many more EVs coming out in 2023 (Chevy, Fisker Ocean, Nissan, etc.) and MME (which is pretty much the same car from 2 years ago) no longer seem to stand out among the competitions, at least on paper. Maybe I am missing something.

I still consider MME to be my #1 target, but the extra price is hard to swallow as those 2023 EVs from other manufacturers seem to offer more technologies with lower prices than a “2021 MME equivalent”. I know MME will get new LFP batteries next year, does it mean there will be a cheaper trim/option or a range upgrade? If so, at least it will make me feel I don’t pay the higher price tag for nothing.

I know this ultimately is my own decision but would love the experts here to point out if I am missing something or share your thoughts. Any comment or advice is greatly appreciated.

In the next 5 years there will be some interesting advancements in EVs. Better batteries, faster charging, better range, all the above.

I've been hearing that for the last 10 years about EVs in general. There is always something better, faster, cheaper, etc, just around the corner, no matter what the product is. If you are always waiting for that, you'll never get anything.
