I’ve heard several members mention how they deionize their water when washing. I peaked at Home Depot and they want $419 for a system. I life in Seattle metropolitan area and do not have hard water. What are your thoughts on this system.

I have been using the CR Spotless DC20 deionization system for 10 years or so. I do live in a hard water area. Without the deionization, obsessively blowing off and drying off the car is an absolute necessity or else the car will be covered with stubborn water spots. With the CR Spotless system I can put away the car covered with water or leave it out in the sun and there are no water spots once it’s dry. If you don’t need it, then you don’t need it.

And I also use the deionized water when I wash my solar panels.

I have also been using the same system as Rich (rhougey) for 10 years. I wouldn't wash my cars without it. I change the filters once a year and with their exchange program, it's easy and inexpensive.

You can get a TDS meter and test your water. They are about $10-15. If under 50 then deionizer probably be a waste.

My water is generally between 120-140 before going into the system. The Spotless Water Systems deionized water system has a built in TDS monitor. The water is always 0 when it comes out and if it goes anything above 0, I replace the filters. For me, that seems to be right around a year or so. As with Rich, I have the DIW-20 large capacity two filter system.

I have the same system but only for 3 years and love it. As most know, it's hot here in AZ in the summer and even though I never wash the car in the sun, it still can dry really quick. Now, I never have to worry about that. Wash is and let it dry itself. Never one water spot on the car. I have had this system for 2 years and have not had to change the filters yet but might not wash my car as often as others.

Most systems that are designed for washing vehicles recommend changing the resin after it gets above 50 doing it before that is is waste of money. My water is around 300 before the going through and never had any water spots waiting to change it around 50.

I've read that but I guess I'm extremely pro-active. I know it might be a waste of money but that is how I roll. I change the batteries in my vehicles at 3 years no matter what. Been doing that since high school 50+ years ago. 😳

Maybe I’m fortunate. None of
My faucets are scaled never see spots when I wash. Shrug.
Sounds like you are fortunate!

I don't like touching my paint. All my vehicles have a ceramic coating which is very easy to clean with just spraying with water unless it is very dirty like muddy, etc. I just spray off the car with a hose and let it dry. No soap, no towels, nothing. If the car is more dirty I will use the pressure washer. If the car is real dirty (coming back from a snow trip) I will use a foam canon, lightly wash off but still let it dry. I have an auto blow dryer but rarely use it. I really like that I never have to towel dry the car.

My experience has been that once the output begins to climb out of zero, it increases fairly quickly, relative to how many washes you get at zero. So when it starts to climb, I change out the resin fairly promptly. I don’t know about you guys, but the quality of the resin seems to have improved the last few years. It’s been lasting me longer nowadays.

I wash weekly towel dry then spray mechanics Choice spray on ceramic towel off and call it good. I commend you on the pride you show!

I agree resin is much better than it use to be. I get al more before getting above and and even after. I use to get maybe 2 more before hitting 50 after it reached above zero, now I get between 5-10.
