So, turns out all of the information I had on the EV plates for IL was all wrong. So much for friends at the Secretary of State! EV plates are required for all electric vehicles in IL. Sorry for the wrong info!!!

Confirmed that the FMCC dealer representative has been contacted to engage with your dealer.
Thank you so much! They actually called late this afternoon and just signed all of the paperwork about an hour ago. There was still quite a bit of confusion, so I am sure the contact will help. My tax attorney husband had to explain how the tax credits will work, etc... If they weren’t the ONLY local Ford dealer, they wouldn’t be our dealer.

Darned...I was hoping to avoid that!
Interesting thing is that most of the common vanity plates one would put on a BEV are taken.

Sadly there are no vanity EV plates! There is a little hope. My husband works for the IL legislature and said that there was bill last year to allow the EV's to have standard plates and just charge the additional fee for the motor fuel use tax. It was delayed due to COVID. Maybe it will come up again this year!

Looks like the dealer did the contract correctly because I've been told it's been processed successfully. You're all set!! Enjoy the Mustang!

You have to set up the backup passcode ahead of time (with the fob in the car).

Yes. Enter the code on the door pillar to get in, put your foot on the brake and push the start button. The car will say 'No Key Detected' and the big screen will prompt you to put in your pin/code that you previously setup. For the backup start code it gives you the full keyboard to work with not just numbers.
Oddly on my car this morning when I went in the menu to set up the start code the selection was grayed out....

If you have the fob with you I think you also have to enter a backup code for the door entry first before it will let you setup the pin to drive.

They used to allow vanity and personalized plates on the electric car plates but the law changed January 1, 2020. Supposedly, the police said it was too hard to figure out who the plates belong to which is BS because they allow these plates on standard ones (actually, on other classes of plates too; I have a personalized plate on my Vietnam Era Veteran plate on our Fusion). I hope your husband is successful and we can have vanity or personalized plates like everyone else.

Yes, and they charge $401 for title, registration and electric plates which is a lot more than standard plates. This and $100 more each year to renew plates.

That explains why most of the good vanity plates that would apply to EVs are not available - people got them before 2020.

I went to the driver services facility today and sadly was issued EL plates. I've been working with my state representative's office the past few weeks to hold my universal veteran plates until the legislation passes allowing me to transfer them to my MME. The Secretary of State's office gave them this to pass on to me:

I have attached the information in regard to the electric plate. I have also enclosed the affirmation that he will have to fill out when he goes in. The plate fee is $251.00.

They waived the $29.00 switch fee, so he will not have to pay that.

When the legislation passes, I will let you know.

I have a folder full of constituents that had to switch from their current plates to the electric plate pursuant to PUBLIC ACT 101-0032, that went into effect on 6-28-2019. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!

So for now, I keep the EL plate until they notify me the bill passed.

I live in Illinois also and have Vietnam Era Veteran plates; will I be able to switch them to the MME when my car comes in? I thought we had to have EL plates. Is the legislature trying to change that policy in this session? It is my understanding that they used to allow vanity and personalized EL plates but then the police complained about them and they passed the current law. I'm confused here.
