Can anyone help clarify how departure time impacts preferred charge time? I have charge limit set to 70%. I have preferred charger time set to 12am - 6am and departure time set to 8:40am and 3:40pm on weekdays. Today I ended up being off schedule and got home at 2:50 with 60% charge. I plugged my car in thinking that it will charge starting at midnight based on the schedule. The car started charging street I plugged it in. Is the car charging because my 3:40 departure time was coming up in 50 min? I would think that the battery wouldn't charge and it would start preconditioning the battery closer to 3:40 and not 50 min before. I did hit Stop Charging button in Ford Pass. Just wondering if this is by design or a glitch. I'll probably test it out again tomorrow to see how it behaves.

Sometimes the car doesn't recognize it is at a saved charge location. In those cases it will charge when plugged in and ignore schedules and charge limit settings.

Sounds like this might be what happened here?

How can we tell if the car isn't recognizing home. In the Ford pass app, map shows that it's at my home address.

Yes, you arrived home at 2:50 with a 3:40 departure time. That, and the fact that your limit was set to 70% triggered instant charging.

Had you arrived home with over 70% charge, at 2:50, at some point it would have started conditioning. Would it have been instantly? Don't know, you'd have to test.

To me it sounds more like the car wanted to get to your 70% prior to the departure time. The car always prioritizes your desired SOC over the preferred charge times.

I just found this so sorry for the delay and hiatus of your discussion.
I have not found an explanation of the prioritization anywhere from Ford. Explanations and user test cases are a HUGE GAP in the user manual. However, I'll trust your position as a regional service manager.

I am a retired IT professional and have reached two conclusions: First: The IT architecture and algorithms that control these features are fragile. Second: The Ford Pass app and vehicle do not synchronize fully or timely. Synching can be problematic because synchs can occur through Bluetooth, LTE (cell phone) and WiFi. User manual does not clarify which is used when and why.

Your situation is a great example of a dynamic demand requiring the MME to interpret the current conditions while applying - or maybe not applying - established preferences. Result are issues for the vehicle to pull electricity from a charger for a specific purpose, while not allowing other charging purposes. I won't outline an idealized flow chart or data design here, but certainly the "if, then, else"...and "do while/do until" controls are not robust enough to interpret your situation. Or mine, or others. Hopefully, the Ford engineers and software developers will improve this fairly soon and push updates out via OTA. I have even suggested to Ford that they seek out people like you to assist engineers update systems development and testing. They may as well use real people who have real-life demands.

In the meantime I use MME settings as authoritative. If changes via Ford Pass app are not working, we go to the MME to both verify settings then change/save/reset/save the settings until the system works the way we want. A little extra work until the software becomes more mature and robust.
Hope this helps.

Not correct. Car should not charge outside of the charge window unless the charge setting is marked “anytime plugged in” which ignores all the settings.

I'm not going to waste time arguing with you. I have experienced it, as have many other forum users. It may not be the way it should work, but it's the way it does work.

Sounds like we have a similar issue. I agree that it appears to prioritize departure settings over charge window settings. I plan to confirm this by removing departure times to see if it only charges during the preferred window.

This is not correct.

If you set a window that is too short to reach your target charge, it will charge outside the window.

If you set a departure time, and the car determines it won't be done charging and ready for departure, it will charge outside your window.

Wasting your time, it will do as you expect.
