Do the welcome lights only work at night?

I've noticed a pattern to mine. While I normally notice that the turn on at night as I approach the car ... I've had outdoor events where the car isn't very far from me. The lights would come on a few times if I got too close to the car. But I'm not actually going to the car ... I just happened to get close. After that happens a few times, the car starts ignoring me and when I do finally go to the car, the lights don't come on.

I had always assumed this was by design -- to avoid the lights repeatedly coming on all night if the fob or PaaK is close.

The welcome lights work at any time of day with a couple of exceptions:

1. The pony ground projections only happen at night or in dark environments
2. Phone as a key can have a bit of a delay - so if you approach the car quickly with phone key, the lights may not have time to come on before you open the door. Approach the car a bit more slowly, or use the key fob and results will be more consistent.

I always walk at the speed of light so I rarely see the welcome lights

I have checked the pony ground projections during daylight by putting my palm under the side-view mirror projector lens. The image on my MME is projected only when ambient light is low enough, as in a darkened garage or after sunset.

Could they possible not work at "Home"? I'm wondering if they just don't come on when the car is in my garage?

At home my puddle lights do not come on while it's in my garage. The reason is my phone, key fobs are too close to my garage.

My bedroom is directly over the garage where I keep my fob when I'm home. My second fob is stored in my side table in the living room/Kitchen area of my home. This is where we basically live and hang out. My Mach E is only 20 feet away.

I saw them working in the wild last night when I came out from my local sports bar after dinner.

I got a little warm fuzzy feeling when I saw them...

I know! They're super cool and I want mine to work! Maybe I'll have to drive somewhere tonight and do a test away from the house.

UPDATE SOLVED: I took the car away from the house tonight, parked it on a dark street and walked away from it. When I walked back to the car; Voila! They work! So, it must be a LVB management strategy on the 2023 to not let them come on when the car is at "home". I was careful when I set my car up and made sure that when it was in the garage that the GPS and address were correct and agreed with each other.

Mystery solved!

I can make mine light up at home in the garage as long as I lock the car and get the fob out of range. When I go back into the garage with the fob, they light up. My “home” location works everywhere it should - navigation and charge settings. My conclusion - I don’t think being “home” disables the welcome lighting.

You are correct.

It has to do with the proximity of the fob or phone to the car.

If you live in say a ranch style house with the living area away from the garage more than likely they will light up when you enter the garage.

If like me you live in a 2 story house with the garage next to my living room /kitchen area then they don’t work because my MME Is always in range of my fobs and or phone.

Mine work whenever I have been away from the car with my fob or phone and get close to the car with either. Day or night.

My wife always chuckles and says “your car is Happy to see you!”

Tried all that and found that, at least on my 2023, it is not the case as I said in earlier posts. I will check it at work on Monday during the daylight though.
