I am at year 3, and 40k miles on my Mach-e, I swear when I really pack my frunk that my efficency takes a noticeable hit. Is it a possibility that a packed frunk hurts aerodynamcis? Does any air route through the frunk and then out, and if blocked create more drag?

When I pack my frunk I put soft things in and squish it, so 100% of the space is blocked. Today it was just winter gear so not very heavy. Yes I am aware that if I am packing the frunk then my car is 100% full on all cargo space, but all told my luggage was about 200 total pounds.

Just wondering if anyone else notices similar? I am hoping that when I return home sunday on the same drive that the weather is the same as I plan to have the frunk empty to see if that makes a difference.

It’s the winter highway driving, not the teddy bears.

No.

That's not enough weight to matter and aerodynamics aren't impacted.

More likely you packing the front correlates with something else that drops efficiency.. like driving on the highway for a trip?

Agreed, highway winter trip, lowest efficiency I have seen. So no air is moving through the frunk?

But again, not a noob here. Someone who is bored try a test!

Very little air moves through the frunk tub. It is vented at the rear, but that has zero to do with aerodynamics. The tub itself is a solid shell, discounting the vents at the top rear of the tub. ??

You can see the 2021-2023 style vents behind me in front of the center beauty cover. ??

The frunk tub is a little different in the 2024 (and I think the 2023 Job 2). The frunk vents are in the same place but have a different shape than on the earlier cars. ??

Also can confirm no air flow as I drive through a snow storm and snow was packed around the gaskets but nothing in the frunk

As others have said no effect on aerodynamics. But if you’re on the Highway you should try to turn off 1pedal driving. I have noticed a significant increase in highway economy by just coasting.

Another confirmation.

No effect on efficiency, drag etc beyond the negligible effect extra weight carried in there would have.

My froot’s always full and contents never get damp or dust covered like the trims around the almost fully sealed froot box save for where the drain hole and gap on the bonnet inner trim around the catches are situated…….

Ok ok, it was just a thought, I think I saw something about an ice sports car and how much air routes under the hood, may have been a mid engine so was curious.

I would think that weight has more of an impact on efficiency. However, the amount of stuff you put in the frunk should not be that much weight. Unless, you are putting in lead bars or bowling balls. Taking your buddies out to lunch in your car would have more of a weight impact than what can be stuffed into a frunk. Efficiency drops even more after your buddies have eaten lunch... Especially if they are like my friends after eating, rolling down the windows is an absolute requirement. Know what mean. ?
