So according to the FDRS thread my car has multiple updates needed.

The bulk of those updates would be covered under 21P22.
But because my car was built in October I'm not eligible for 21P22.

So are we just effed? What is the point of updates if no one can or will do them?

Is there some specific feature or fix that you need updated?
Do you already have BlueCruise and frunk button in FordPass?

After you have the major features, the rest of what's in FDRS is fine tuning and bug fixes that are hard to notice any difference in vehicle operation.

If you really want to just be updated to the latest, follow the thread about doing FDRS updates yourself. Its straightforward and low risk, but you have to invest in the right equipment and follow the instructions carefully.

Initially 21P22 was just for Job 1. Ford extended it to early Job 2.

Job 2's have not had many significant updates because of the focus on getting Job 1's caught up. What you will likely see in the the next couple of months is a series of OTA's to get Job 1 and Job 2 vehicles aligned in preparation for a larger update later in the year. The 21P22 updates should all come via OTA. If there are delays, then Ford will likely extend the 21P22 eligibility.

Eventually those updates will be sent to the car OTA. Keep in mind most if not all of those updates are not going to “fix” anything you are looking for them to change. Almost all of them are background updates to the software.

The reason dealers will not update them is because it takes them a lot of time to update the car (can be over a day of fighting with the system to get them all to update) and techs only get paid by the hours they can bill to a job. since Ford will not pay them to update unless there is a failure that needs to be fixed it would be either the dealer or customer who would need to pay that time to the tech.

On his Job 2, there is really just the major charge curve update and everything else is targeted to certain issues. Most of those issues (HVAC, PAAK, etc) have associated SSM's or TSB's which would allow the dealerships to perform updates but not the entire series such as OBCC.

I want feature parity that can be achieved via software updates. I'm not going to risk doing an update that could brick a 50k automobile when Ford should be providing a way for them to be done

The 80% charging curve update has been out for 7 months.
The Apple Maps EV Routing update has been out of 3-4 months.

Feature parity will come. I'm sure it would have happened by now if it wasn't for all of the issues with Job 1 BlueCruise updates this spring.

Regarding EV routing, this would be a SYNC update which is not even available in FDRS. I'm hoping to see it soon as we are starting to see more Job 2 updates in FDRS wheras there were almost none while the BlueCruise push was happening.

My guess is the SYNC update will happen on June 15 but that is only because that is the day I leave for three weeks and I'll be stuck reading about the updates until I get back. ?

Which is even more galling...are they not able to do more than one thing at Ford?

Another point here ... Job 2's had BlueCruise functioning back in July and Job 1's did not start to get this feature pushed until March (for EA) and some are still waiting. BlueCruise is a major feature that was promised. The major update to the charge curve is a bonus update that will come when it comes.

You certainly have every right to be frustrated and I am anxiously waiting that update as well; however, I also recognize that a lot went wrong with the BlueCruise updates and as late as last week Ford is still publishing new guidance to help dealerships get this working. Ford engineering is likely all hands on deck with BlueCruise for software and "Stop Safely Now" for hardware.

“Feature parity.”

Just think about this for a minute. You are job 2, and have enjoyed MAJOR features like Bluecruise from day 1.

And now you’re complaining that the people (job 1) who have had a year of “less feature parity” than you suddenly have a couple minor updates more than you?

Life isn’t fair, but you definitely got the “bigger ice cream scoop,” and now are complaining because your little brother got sprinkles on his ice cream.

Feature parity is not ice cream, more of it for me does not equal less of it for you.

Job 1 people mad at Job 2 people like it's some sort of competition ?

I am in the same boat as @wheelsee. Happy I've had Bluecruise since I received the car in November, annoyed the charging cliff and Apple EV routing is still missing from my car. Clearly a case of Ford having shockingly limited capacity and prioritizing one feature at a time with Bluecruise being the obvious priority.
