Remember when PCs first came out? When there were issues we just rebooted and were glad we didn’t have to do that with our cars:oops:o_O;)

I'm sure we can find some old cars with doors that don't close.

It's convenient how memory works right? The reason it's not worth working on your own car anymore is 1) they're way more complex and 2) they work way better now than in ye olden days.

I've worked on my old cars back in day far more than anything recent.
Hah. The door on my Dodge Aries K car actually fell off in the inspector's hand as he opened it to scrape off my inspection sticker before putting in the new one.

After he stopped laughing, he found a nail to drop down the center of the hinge to hold it on and still gave me a "pass."

I had an 82 Plymouth Reliant K. What year was yours? Did the K frame rot out and break on yours too? Had to have mine welded up. ? ?

Pretty simple, I just would not have thought about it. They popped up the latch in the door itself. Apparently when the door closes, the kicker pushes open slightly to create some pressure on it. By manually latching then unlatching several times, it eventually got back on sequence. After unlatching one time, it took about 10 seconds and then retracted.

When they went to show me, they got it out sequence again and it took about 3 tries to get it start working again.
Pulling the interior door release harder/farther back than normal is supposed to be the mechanical release. I wonder if that would work to sync the kicker or if part of the latch still needs to physically be pushed up with the latch pin (or a screwdriver) as the door is pushed put. If it keeps happening it might be a bad latch or bad alignment to the latch pin.

Mine was a sky blue 1981 wagon--my first car. I never got to the point of the frame falling apart because the engine died first!

Thanks for this thread - same thing happened to my wife a couple of weeks ago. After searching up the issue and finding comments here, I was able to get the kicker to cycle back in by manipulating the latch to its closed position, then pushing the door open button. The kicker extended out a bit further, then seemed to catch while retracting but operated normally after that.

We haven't seen the problem since, but had made a dealer appointment at the time it was stuck anyway so took it in yesterday. As might be expected, they weren't able to replicate or offer any suggestions; but seemed to be conscientious in looking into it. As much as anything, it was a chance to sample the customer service at that particular Ford dealer since we have a few options available within a reasonable drive.

Since this came back to life, I'll follow up really quick. We went camping last weekend and left the Mach-E for 4 days plugged in (since you know it can't tow). When we got back, it did the exact same thing. Thankfully the latch cycle quickly resolved it. But it does seem to be consistent now that when I leave it for a few days the latch loses its mind a bit.

I remember older cars having nothing but problems, especially American ones.

............remember when cars were junk at 50,000 miles?
I don't remember that at all. My GM and Ford cars all had higher mileage for over 20 years, and all were sold to be driven by another owner. None were junk.

An IBM engineer invented the "three finger salute" as a solution to restart thr PC instead of hitting the Big Red Switch and prevent hardware damages due to the powering down effect. He later described the three finger maneuver as difficult so it would be intencional and not accidental. But then repented as Microsoft made that necessary so often under MSDOS or PCDOS.

Personally referring to cars from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I would agree that from more recent vintages have been much better

Four days ago the rear door pusher mechanism was pushed out after I had pushed the button again just as the door mechanism sounded. Since then I had to lean on the door to get it closed. Unhappy mechanism sounds afterwards each time. Checked it each day and today was annoyed enough (and remembered) to search and found this thread. Went out to the garage, opened the door and the pusher was again stuck out. Went over to the tools, and had to search a bit, and as I found a BA screwdriver, the mechanism sounded and the pusher retracted on its own. Opened and closed it twice, and it seems fine now. Odd, but hey, it worked...

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.
