How is the charger at Gallipolis? I've contemplated driving the MME through there on way to Williamsburg, VA. Thanks.
It's always worked well for us, and there are a couple restaurants and a Piggly Wiggly nearby. Not sure which direction you're coming from or your route, but Charleston WV has a new 62.5kW charger at a dealer, and Chillicothe also has a new charger (it's not the easiest to get from the highway, unfortunately). I've not tried either of those, though.

Is there any data to suggest 80% - 85% is safer somehow?
It probably is safer, but the difference between 90% and 80% is probably negligable since there is already a top buffer to prevent a 'true' 100% charge. I don't know if cell batteries have this buffer or not (I suspect they do not), so 80% charge on your cell is probably a good charge level to use. I wish stupid Apple would allow this setting on my iPhone...

No, they don't have it unfortunately. My android phone beeps when it hits 80% then I have to unplug it. But some pixels will refuse to go above 80% if you set them to

That would be nice. The closest I get is having the phone charger on my nightstand plugged into a smartplug which I have scheduled to turn off about 3 hours after my normal bedtime. Sometimes it only makes it to 90%, sometimes 100%, depending on how depleted it was during the day. But at least it doesn't sit there and keep topping up all night long, which is supposedly even worse for the battery.

Thanks and good to know. The Charleston WV charger has been promised for a year. I actually spoke to their service department at one time. We would travel from IL to VA along 64 after Dayton and Gallipolis. Return trip is opposite. Energy expenditure up the mountains makes me cautious, and I think the MME would not recover equal energy downhill. We have stayed at Steels Tavern, VA which has an L2 charger, so could charge overnight, and Lexington, VA has chargers. Driven our ICE hybrid thus far. Will take the northern route following I-70 to I-76/70 to I-95 to I-64 with the MME. Adds about 2 hours, so can't drive in one day, which is OK knowing we would need to charge 4-5 times.

We drive all the way to Beckley, WV without any issues. We do have an L2 charger at our destination, though. Mountains haven't been too much of an issue; we just adjust our speed downwards a little to compensate. This is all in the ER RWD with 18" rims, though.

We are south of you between B-N and Peoria. Have ER AWD w/18" rims I think. If Beckley had a L3 charger I would feel comfortable getting through the mountains. Alas!

Every time I've used it, it worked just fine - about five times between October 2022 and now. It's right behind a neat local bar where you can grab a burger, and around the corner from an indie coffee shop. Also, take a walk on the really cool waterfront park. BTW it's a 62kH ChargePoint.

This is well put. I find it mildly annoying when nerd-types (and as a closet nerd myself, I don't mean that as an insult) scoff at normal people who are just trying to live their busy lives. This doesn't mean the normies are ignorant - it means they've got better things to do than jack around with this crap. The folks who find enjoyment in this level of planning and tinkering just to get from Point A to B are a distinct minority overall - just way overrepresented on this board.

It isn't ignorance that's hampering EV adoption - it's the cost and Pain In The A$$ factor.

This is, hands down, the weirdest thread I have ever gotten involved in on this site.
With 18 pages of posts, this thread has covered more ground over more areas than all the long trippers participating, combined! It has been enjoyable people-watching for this retired, mostly lurker.?

OP here! The latest on my road trip coming back. Nightmare. 150 kWh EA chargers are charging at 35. Ford Pass trip navigator had my next charge(Im at 22%) in 6 miles. Took the exit, it had me go through a roundabout and then immediately rerouted me back on the freeway with the next charge 35 miles away. Then when I reached a point where the freeway split into two different valid routes going in the same basic directions, it routed me on the one with a 30 minute traffic delay compared to the other route, according to the freeway update signs.. Then routed me out 10 miles east of the freeway to go to a charger in gridlock traffic. Earlier in the day it would say ‘6 minute delay on current route’, then a minute later ‘107 minute delay. Airliner must have crashed on the freeway and wiped out 5 miles of road?

A trip that normally takes 6.5 hours in an ICE will be 10.5 hours due to incorrect routing and charger issues. And me banging my head against the pavement. EA chargers only allow 1 vehicle at a time to use a charging unit. EVGo allows both simultaneously. Another vehicle trying to charge next to me could not position his vehicle in the available chargers to connect the charging cable. Spent ten minutes backing up here and there, head in etc. Finally left as all chargers were either busy or inaccessible.

Sigh. We’ve had much better experiences with road trips to other areas. This one truly sucks.
I decided before leaving that I would use FordPass to make the trip plan and then just follow it without trying to second guess it. Oops.
